  1. After this year he'll be 31. His agent is Boras, and I have no doubt that he can get him a 6 or 7 year deal for $20 million/year. J. D. Drew got $14 million/year for 4 years. BTW: I think he his currently getting $25 million/year, not $27 million
  2. Papelbon was a great closer. There is no guaranty that he'd be a great starter or even a #2 or 3 starter. Wasn't Mo Rivera a starter in the Yanks organization. Once they saw that he was "All World " out of the pen no thought was given to moving him to starting. Great is rare. You don't mess with great.
  3. Roberts did not risk his health and his future career by agreeing to an experimental procedure in order to play in the playoffs and WS.
  4. In the article you cite he said the following: Are you trying to say that the kid didn't express his preference to close? What point are you trying to make? If you are going to argue about something with someone, you should have a point you are trying to make. I made a post saying that the kid missed closing. There have been a number statements from him saying how he liked closing. He told the team he wants to close, and today, he said he wants to close for the rest of his career. You don't believe him?
  5. Jackson, you clearly don't understand how big an icon he was to a couple of generations of Boston fans, and they are just itching to welcome him back. He never achieved the same status in NY with NY fans. You have to get this through your head.
  6. No, they are garbage with the potential to become what I term "Human forfeits."
  7. If you want to join in the action with Jackson, you can be my bitch along with Jackson if he comes to Boston.
  8. This move was made by Theo, who tried to get him after 2004, and he was forced to make a move to make up for the blunder of letting Damon walk.
  9. Jackson, you left Clemens off your poll. He'll be the 5th starter no later than July 1st.
  10. I don't think it is a panic move. Clearly, the kid wanted to resume the role. It was going to be hard for him to recapture the magic, the aura, the sheer intimidation that he brought to the mound in the 9th inning. He knew that and he relished the adrenaline rush. Let's face it. He a one of a kind closer-- a Mo Rivera, Joe Nathan-type closer. Look for Clemens to be in the rotation by mid-season.
  11. I am excited about the season, but this is a flawed team that needs work. Theo should have worked out some of those things already.
  12. I would welcome any similarity to '97 Nomar.
  13. You are right Fred. He just sealed the Yankees doom. He's always wrong. Two years ago he predicted that Sosa hit 50 HRs for the Orioles.
  14. I couldn't see it. I was at work and it wasn't on MLB audio.
  15. I put little or no emphasis on ST for the veterans, but I do like to see something positive from the rookies if they are going to come north. Some of the kid pitchers will be left behind solely because they had lousy springs. Too many people, including the FO are treating Pedroia like he has veteran status when he has done nothing to earn it.
  16. It's still one acquisition and taking a stud from your bullpen to the detriment of the bullpen. The rotation looks a lot better on paper, but overall is the entire staff that much stronger? We added Dice K to a s***** staff. That was it-nothing more unless you want to turn cartwheels over Donnelly and Okajima.
