  1. Rasner took it on the chin pretty good tonight.
  2. It was good to see that Crisp got a couple of doubles and Pedroia got one too. Tek is hitting .103. That's just ridiculous. It's like he has gone blind. I am concerned about him, especially after last year. I remember Rich Gedman going from a .290 hitter to a .190 hitter in a very short period. I hope Tek has not fallen off a cliff.
  3. But you love living in a country where woman don't get stoned to death for not wearing a head and face covering in public, and where you don't have to worry about being beheaded for practicing your religion or not practicing any religion? If you do, you should be thankful for all the men and women who have served to protect this country. If you think there is no cause worthy enough to put your life on the line, then you have never lived under an oppressive government. You should be thankful for that too. BTW: As far as ORS using his military service to garner support for his baseball opinions, that's simply ridiculous. His baseball knowledge stands on its own. He takes it as good as he gives it out on these boards. He doesn't need anyone's help. Personally, I have disagreed with his opinion about many baseball issues, but the man knows baseball.
  4. I read that they held firm on the prospects not the money. THe Red Sox after the fact might have squawked about the money, but that is almost always a damage control BS story. They cried about the $ after they lost out on Abreu, and I had people on these and other boards believing the obviously planted cover story. They had no money for 1 year of Abreua, but they had $105 million for Dice K, a ridiculous 4 year deal for Drew, and a boat load for Lugo. The FO has plenty of money, plus HElton would have come at a steep discount from his current contract. Now we have two bags of s*** in the minors and a first baseman who on his best day can't carry Helton's jock.
  5. I'd feel much better with Drew in the 2nd hole and Helton in the 5th hole. I don't like Youk in the 2 slot. He k's too much and is too slow. He will kill lots of rallies with DPs.
  6. ...and neither of the two stud prospects (Hansen and MDC) that we refused to trade for Helton made the Roster.
  7. Pedroia is back at .200. Maybe he will go on a tear.
  8. My earliest memory of the Red Sox was rushing home to see game 2 of the '67 World Series in time to see Yaz's second homer, and I got home to see game 6 that year. I remember wondering who Gary Waslewski was. I really didn't know him, because he rarely pitched that year. At my first Fenway Park visit, I got there for batting practice, and I remember I was shocked to see Yaz smoking in the dugout.
  9. They need to send him to AAA where he can hopefully dominate and start to regain his status as a prospect and then trade him. In all the prposed trades where the other teams wanted MDC and/or Hansen, it was a mistake for the FO to refuse. These guys are nobodys. When you get offered established stars for nobodys, you make the trade. If the guy you trade becomes a star that is not so bad, because you got an established star in return. The best that we can hope for from this stiff is that he helps bring someone to the team that can help. MDCis also overhyped. Dump his ass too while he still has a little bit of a reputation.
  10. Are his pitches all over the place, like they are saying.
  11. During the Reds broadcast, the announcers mentioned how members of the Red Sox organization have mentioned that it was a mistake to have let AGon go, because Lugo is not in the same league defensively. I guess they could have gotten Lugo to play second base. BTW. With an 0 for 2 Pedroia has found last year's major league level of .191. Yeah, yeah I know I am being a broken record, but I need to vent. Don't worry. I will stop when he settles in and starts doing the job. I just wish he'd start hitting. He must have about 100 ABs which is good, because he's getting it out of his system-- Hopefully. Matsuzak has walked 4 in the first 4 innings. The Reds' announcers have said that his commmand is not good-- that his pitches are all over the place. He'll need his command against the AL East. Four walks will not cut it.
  12. Any speculation on who the Reds might offer for him?
  13. No, Iam not saying that. I am saying that he might be a year or two away from becoming a Mark Loretta type player. We could have kept the real Loretta until he proved he was ready.
  14. Yes, I would be ecstatic if he hit .270. The scouts who say that he could be a Loreeta or Eckstein are setting that as his upper limit. They are not saying to expect 2007 Pedroia to be Eckstein or Loretta. We are giving a guy whose upper limit is the guy who we got rid of, who was already at that level. It just makes no sense to me, and it never will from a business standpoint. Of course it is perfectly clear to the Pedroia groupies. Edit: Those other guys did not play a full season in the majors until they were 25 and 26. This kid is 23.
  15. I'll be ecstatic if he hits .270.
  16. Pedroia still hitting .200. Loretta is hitting .333 for Houston. The Rookie Section in the Fantasy Baseball mag put out by CBS SPortsline.com has the following next to Pedroia's name: "Think Mark Loretta." We had Mark Loretta. We needed to find a new Mark Loretta? Does Loretta have such a high price tag? Sorry for bringing this up, but if scouts are sayuing that your upside is the guy you are replacing, then why are you relacing the veteran when he's not too expensive?
  17. A $200+ million payroll and Pavano is starting on opening day? Too funny.
  18. This thread title would be much funnier if read from right to left like Chinese is read.
