  1. What a surprise Longoria going deep against the Sox! Last week he hit a ball so far that he hit his name on the scoreboard at City of Palms Park. That is a mammoth shot. He hit 2 HRs in that game. They came right after the fans started chanting "Eva, Eva" when he picked up a foul ball. After a couple of chants he waved his hand at the stands in a dismissive manner. The fans got a kick out that.
  2. Baseball parks and stadiums should be limited to serving Hot Dogs, Crackerjack, peanuts and soda and beer. That's it. Personally, I don't understand why people drop a bundle on tickets to wait on line for bad food and miss half the game.
  3. I am not surprised that there is something wrong with his arm. Last spring he looked very good. This spring he was horrible. He had nothing. Guys were hitting big bombs off him quite regularly.
  4. The old wood seats in the grandstand definitely have more room than the pastic box seats.
  5. I can't believe all this arguing about Alamanzar. He stinks. What is the crux of this argument. . . Whether the FO knew that he stunk when they drafted him? To the extent he got any hype, he was over hyped.
  6. He hasn't had a lot of playing time. His swing looks just fine-- no different than prior years. He is moving better than at any point last season, but let's remember that he ran like an old warhorse prior to the injury.
  7. Was this the offensive production of each teams starters, because that's all that matters? Spring games are essentially 6 innings long, because that is all the starters play. Runs scored after the 6th are meaningless. The stats you produced don't prove that Spring stats are meaningless, because they are not measuring the performance of the starters. You've used meaningless stats in your quest to prove that spring stats are meaningless. I am not saying that spring stats are any indicator of regular season performance. However, I watched the starters futile performance day after day. They have not produced runs at all this spring. Ortiz is struggling to make solid contact. Scutaro has looked like the utility player that he prior to last year. Beltre has hit well, but not for power. This looks like a team that will need three hits to score runs if Ortiz can't return to his former glory. Without a big year from him, there is no scary HR power guy in the lineup. Teams that rely on bunching hits to score runs fall victim to slumps worse than teams with one or two big boppers.
  8. The members should unionize and shut this place down. We are being exploited by the man.
  9. Let's hear from them. I am sure that it is a very short line.
  10. They lined up the A offense a few times this week and almost every days lineup had mostly starters. They did nothing this week. There will be two to 3 times a week during the regular season when we will be seeing the likes of Varitek and/or Hall in the lineup, so don't expect the A lineup out there everyday. While I have been here, VMart, Beltre, Cameron and Hermida have had the best ABs. The starters have not produced runs. There have been very few HRs. Cameron hit one. Other than that, I can't remember any others. Will this carry over to the regular season? I certainly hope not, but I am just reporting what has happened for the last 7 days. I'd feel better if they were raking one week before the regular season.
  11. Hughes only pitched 3 innings against Philly tonight giving up 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 5 and walking 4 and throwing 2 wild pitches.
  12. Pedroia didn't play today again. He was supposed to play today. Reddick is staying around .400 witha 1 for 3 today.
  13. The starting offense produce one run today, and that was against some bum reliever. The starting offense has produced almost nothing for the entire week that I have been down here. I wasn't at today's game, but it looks like Papelbon was unimpressive once again. His velocity was not very good on Tuesday.
  14. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2010/03/sox_still_looki.html Met fans were calling him Schoewen douche by the end of his tenure in NY. He sucked.
  15. I think there is a mal-distribution of income for TalkSox members. You should be forced to redistribute some of the income.
  16. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2010/03/26/pitching_decisions_unclear/ This is not a good situation. Players are such creatures of habit, especially pitchers, that this type of uncertainty can have a very detrimental impact. They need to get their act together and decide the direction that they want to take. Wakefield looked good yesterday. There was no solid contact against him until his last inning. He had quite a few k's. Buchholz looked like crap on Tuesday. I am not surprised that this article mentions that Dice K was not throwing very hard yesterday. That was pretty obvious to those of us in attendance. He came in against the Marlin scrubs and he couldn't overpower anyone. Almanzar is clearly no longer a prospect. He's with the team to fill innings at the end of games as is Jason Place. Both look overpowered even against minor league scrub pitching. Almanzar looked like a blind man swatting flies.
  17. Prospects are for stocking the minor league system and trading for established players. Few become stars.
  18. I'll be at the May 9th game.
  19. Buchholz looked terrible tonight-- very wild, and he got hit hard. Papelbon's velocity wasn't great either, but he did throw quite a few offspeed pitches. He topped out at 93 on one pitch, and Bard was hitting 97 regularly and 98 on a couple of pitches. Since I have been down here the starting offense has been completely dormant. Tonight they managed 2 hits off Pavano.
  20. Joba going back to setup could revive his career. He was dominant in that role.
  21. I got down here on Sturday night. I'll be here until Saturday. I'm going to Hammond stadium for an away game tonight. Delcarmen is one of the scheduled pitchers tonight. Word in the paper is that he has not been throwing very hard. I'll let you know what I observe without the help of a radar gun.
