  1. Who will play the OF? Hermida is out of the game. I guess Drew has to play.
  2. I'll never understand why they didn't trade him for Halladay.
  3. I'd take Abreu for Heyward in a heart beat. Yes, Abreu is at the end and Heyward is the future, but we keep these players only for one season. It's unlikely that Heyward will put up as many fantasy point this year as Abreu.
  4. I am as shocked as you.
  5. Happy Birthday... in a few minutes!
  6. Welcome!
  7. One bad game and Papelbon is being written off as a "shell of himself." Epic knee-jerking.
  8. I wouldn't call it hyperbole. I would call it being a wise ass, so knock it off and take out your frustrations by doing one of your home projects. Let me get this straight, you are accusing me of having "undying love" for a player? I am usually accused of hating players. Please try to be consistent with the other ridiculous criticisms of me. You are being ridiculous for being so concerned about Papelbon after 1 bad game. He also has one save. This hardly constitutes an early season trend that needs to be defended. I think you are over-reacting just a bit. If Papelbon does trend downward this season, the 2010 Sox will be screwed in a major way, because Bard is not the consistently dominant kind of pitcher that we have become used to in Papelbon. I like Bard a lot. He is one of three arms in pen that I trust, but i don't see him as a replacement for Papelbon. There may not be a choice if Papelbon is washed up in a couple of years. That would not be a good thing for the Sox.
  9. A problem with the "Bridge" strategy is that they were hoping that temporary fill-ins like Cameron and Beltre would bridge the team to some of the younger future stars like Westmoreland. Obviously, that strategy needs to readjusted.
  10. terry will probably play Varitek tomorrow against a dominant righty giving us an automatic out in the lineup. Varitek should play solely against lefties. Terry should play to his strength not his weakness.
  11. They had an off season strategy of building around pitching and defense. Someone needs to remind them that pitching includes the bullpen and defense includes the catcher position.
  12. Last year I was at a game against Tampa where Paps walked the lead off hitter and gave up a soft line drive hit to Bartlett to start the inning and with the tying run on base he struck out Pena, Upton and Crawford on 3 swinging k's without a single called strike and only one foul ball-- 9 swinging strikes. That was dominant. He's still the man. Bard is a nice arm, but ...
  13. At Bard's stage in his career, Papelbon was lights out dominant.
  14. There you go-- a blown game by the future closer Bard.
  15. No pop in the lineup. No road scoring like last year.
  16. They are in the process of giving this away
  17. Vasquez got banged around big time
  18. This is sooo Wakefield.
  19. He could have set the table with Pedroia for VMart. Dumb
  20. He was the best power hitter in the league from June on last season. We can give him a little more than 2 or 3 games.
  21. I don't disagree that he will cost less than Bay, but as a catcher he is worse than Bay is as a First basemen IMO. Bay is more of a gamebreaking pwer threat than VMart, and we need that kind of threat.
  22. This was evident to me during my week in Ft. Myers. Unless MDC rediscovers his fastball or Ramirez rediscovers his early season magic from last season, there is little talent out there that can step up after Bard and Papelbon. I disagree. Scutaro is average in the field, not as good as Lowrie or Alex Gonzalez. We still stink at catcher and holding on runners. I disagree. Bay was more valuable because he is a much more significant power threat, plus he could run the bases. VMart is like an old warhorse on the bases.
