  1. They were comfortable making $5 million offers to pitchers in the off season. If they had saved $5 or $6 million on Ortiz, they could have increased those offers.
  2. Why would they be limited to exactly $6 million?
  3. Bard is still all screwed up. He blew a save last night. Here is his line since he has been at Pawtucket:
  4. As a fan, I don't care much about that, especially after the ticket prices have been set for the year. Secondly, the figures that I have seen indicate that they are over the cap anyway. Third, I wouldn't mind if they used the Scutaro money to improve the team in another area. They have not done so. I never said that there wasn't a sound business motivation for the Sox. However, I don't really care about a few million being spread around the ownership group at the expense of the on field product. That's my fan's perspective. The team would have been better off with Scutaro than Punto. If I was a Sox owner or investor, I might feel different, but I am just a fan. All I know is that Punto sucks and Scutaro was useful.
  5. Brandon Moss 7 HRs 12 RBI in 43ABs
  6. It was about as good as it could get.
  7. Whiny f***. Now, I know why you like him.
  8. BTW, where the heck are VA and SBF? I am starting to suspect that they have run off together.
  9. Good showcase for Youkilis tonight.
  10. Yep, yep. Keep on ranting.
  11. Ortiz can still bring that bat through the zone with a lot of speed and power.
  12. What strawman? You said that I know nothing because I wanted the Red Sox to get Carl Crawford, but yet you argue in this thread about how much credit Theo deserves and he signed the guy, overpaid him by $16-24 million over the next closest offer and he financially crippled his team with his spending with full knowledge of their finances-- something that fans are not privy to. If I am a fool for wanting Crawford, Theo must be a jackass deluxe for executing the move with full knowledge of all the facts.:dunno: No strawman, just deductive reasoning. Right , troll?
  13. I get it. As a fan, I am a fool because I wanted the Red Sox to obtain an All Star quality player who always killed the Sox, but Theo is a genius for overpaying him and financially crippling the team. That makes a lot of sense.
  14. I also was opposed to trading Manny to the Mets for Lastings Milledge, Aaron Heilman, and some other less notable guy. That was an offer from Theo that the Mets declined. That trade would have wrecked the 2007 season. Of course, Theo did make plenty of bad trades and acquisitions to make up for not pulling off that trade. He made more bad moves than I have discussed here. It's not even close.
  15. ... And I'd still rather have Crawford than Werth. If I had known that either acquisition would have forced the Red Sox into austerity mode, I would have passed on both of them. The FO didn't pass and now they are running an austerity budget. That's their fault.
  16. What are youiv all bent out of shape about. I didn't even mention you in my post.
  17. No Pedroia tonight. Bobby V is sitting him as a precaution. Punto (yuk!) is filling in for him. Here's where you miss Scutaro. Punto is good for at least 1 bunt attempt.
  18. If they do, Bonds will be the one to break the ice. If they hold the line on Bonds, none of them get in. If they get in, will there be any mention of steroids on the plaques? What can they say? Most of them are suspected with good reason, but few have been busted under the drug policy.
