its becoming more evident we should get a new starting pitcher, try anyway in the market. and put arroyo back in the bullpen where he does much better consistently. and by the way tito, embree is the most inconsistent pitcher for the sox by far. yankees and other teams in teh majors got rid of relief pitchers with ERAs over 6. why cant you?? halfway thru the season embree's ERA is now at 7.93, his contract ends this season, but its best to give him the pink slip right away and call up a jon lester or a papplebon

they have faced redding before, just in limited fashion. edgar has most experience against him.

just several more bad decisions on titos part, keeping embree into the 8th inning when timlin was ready to go in, 3 pitches and gives off a double to jorge (with one-run lead he shoudl have had mueller by the 3rd base line!!). so tito brings in timlin with a man in scoring position (deja vu anyone?) gets the 3 outs but at same time another inherited runner is scored off of timlin. sox would have had a chance in bottom of the 8th inning if not for the f***in umpire calling ankle high pitches by the yankees as strikes. with the 9th inning a tied game, i really thought it would be best for timlin to come in, rather than tito calling in schilling for his spotlight moment. his first relief appearance for the sox shouldve been same as in pawtucket, bring him in when there is already a manageable lead. aside from all that mess, the silver linings were ortiz belting one to give the sox a short lead, trot hitting his 2nd homerun in 2 games which gave the 4-0 lead at the time, and millar who had good offense numbers than we have seen.

just updating the batter vs. pitcher stats for tonight's face off of Wells and Redding, with all of sox except for renterria having limited at-bat experience against Redding. Sox will sure need to light fenway tonight with hits as yankees' roster has very good experience against wells. But still David Wells has a great record against the yanks, 17 - 9 record with a nice 3.02 ERA. Ill be there tonight, and so far 10 of the 12 games ive been to this season, sox won, so got a good record for that. ok i dont know why everybody is downplaying curt's closer abilities, terry just brought in curt so he could have a spotlight moment, in a tied game. I think tito and the sox shouldve brought in curt steadily with starting him off to an inning where a sox has a lead and then ease along to the tougher situations. plus the game wouldve been different if not for the yankee loving umpire calling their ankle-high pitches as strikes, and when our boys would throw exact same picthes they were "balls"

i like variteks chances for this series, so far he has the best numbers of the sox against ny this year, 10 for 25 hits--dont count out edgar as well, last series against the yanks he belted 3 homeruns

i voted Bill Mueller, his defense wedb gems plays along with the clutch hitting hes still continuing in this season, really my favorite player on the team. a soft spoken guy, whos not arrogant at all like fellow 3rd baseman arod for instance. heres hoping he stays on for next year, even if it will be limited duties as kevin youkilis' backup.

Millar, who has expressed his unhappiness with the increased playing time of John Olerud, will be a free agent after the season. Kerrigan goes to work for Yankees? The Philadelphia Daily News reported that former Red Sox manager and pitching coach Joe Kerrigan will soon be working for the Yankees. Yankees GM Brian Cashman reportedly contacted Kerrigan, who served as the Phillies' pitching coach last season, last week. ... More evidence that the Yankees may stand pat at the trade deadline: "We have to get back to doing what made the Yankees so good for such a long period beginning in the '90s," Cashman said, according to an ESPN.com column by Peter Gammons. "We're in the position we're in because we stopped developing our own young players. We can point to what's happened since we brought up Robinson Cano and Chien Wang." Red Sox GM Theo Epstein on Cashman's comments: "I always had a great deal of respect for Brian," he said. "But I have more now than ever. Here he is without a contract, and he's putting the long-term good of the New York Yankees ahead of his own job security." Neither Epstein nor Cashman have deals beyond this season.

exactly so, coming into the may series of sox vs yanks, the yanks were riding high just coming off of winning 15 out of their last 17 games. then came the faceoff in yankee stadium, sox outscored them 30-9 and out hit them 52-21. it couldve have been a 3 game sweep if not for dale svelum's bad decisions in the 6th inning and alan embree giving up back to back homeruns, tallying 5 runs and handing them the win.
