  1. http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/redSox/?p=764 Interesting to say the least, Foulke could be leaning towards accepting arbitration the Sox offered.
  2. The Nats holding onto Soriano was one of the biggest front office blunders in the 2006 season. They turned down from the Angels: Ervin Santana, Brandon Wood, another top prospect
  3. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6235962 3 1/2 hours ago, the Red Sox & Dodgers met to discuss a Manny Ramirez trade. Brad Penny could be involved in the talks, another former Marlin who John Henry oversaw. Ken Rosenthal suggests a package of Penny (signed thru 09), 3rd baseman Andy LaRoche, and 1st baseman James Loney
  4. His contract is up after 2007? You do know that the Marlins have control of him for the next 5 years, right? Concerning Pedroia, the Sox believe that leaving him in Triple A would be bad for his natural progress. He's going to be a valuable member of the '07 team
  5. I definitely see Tek being a lfetime Red Sox. This coming season is looking like his last official full season as a starter, and hopefully as you said 2008 will split duties with Kottaras. Then for the next several years see him as the backup catcher. Very good bet of him bein offered coaching/managing jobs in the Sox minor leagues when he retires. No doubt I think he's going to be a great manager someday
  6. There are doubts about him even being capable of being a decent 5th starter. There is a possibility that he could go to the bullpen if what said is true. Im not sold on this guy at all
  7. Whye does everyone keep going on by comparing JD Drew to Manny? JD Drew will be Trot's replacement in right field, not Mannys. Drew over Trot is a definite upgrade. Now it would seem evident that Wily Mo would take over left field (unless Manny trade brings an outfielder a la Matt Kemp?)
  8. http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=170209&format=&page=2 Today's article says the JD Drew signing should be announced by tomorrow. Also an interview with Gabe Kapler saying he intends to come back to Boston next year... yea how about that guys?
  9. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2683902 This will be the 30 year old outfielder's 8th team he has joined. At 1 year/$5 million plus an option, its looking like a reasonably good deal... still a risk as he is coming off of elbow reconstructive surgery
  10. Still an upgrade none the less, and made just 6 errors this past season
  11. Its not like Ortiz came back after a heart scare to play the rest of the season even though he knew the playoffs were far out of reach... no wait. Giving an excuse as "That was after you guys were out of it anyways." is rather pety And he's being run out of town? Yea smells like ********. He's been asking out of Boston for quite awhile now. The contract he signed in 2001 was because he was looking for the biggest deal his agent could get for him. Not much was gone into researching the lifetsyle of being a sports star in Boston
  12. Of course happy to see this type of contract for Roberts. But at his age, they could be hurting from it. Also this wknd they should announce the signing of catcher Bengie Molina. The youth movement continues! Honestly are the Giants setting themselves to be the oldest team in baseball?
  13. I heard that the Cubs are asking Julio Lugo to play center field for just this season, then move back to his ss position with top prospect Felix Pie stepping in. Now if they get Lugo... would they be willing to work out a deal for Cesar Izturis?
  14. Nixon wouldve accepted the arbitration right away if they offered it to him. It wouldve been last offseason all over again as they offered Tony G arbitration because he was a type A free agent, he accepted which put basically put him under contract for 2007. In think thats why they backed off the possibility-- "whoah guys we could be paying $6+ million this season for a backup outfielder" And if Trot were to come back, he should be listed as the 5th OF. Wily Mo Pena's bat is much more valuable than Trot's is off the bench
  15. Well with Drew coming into right field, and if Manny leaves... Wily Mo Pena could shift to being the starting left fielder where his defense wont be as bad bad compared to the right field adventures. That is of course unless a Manny trade would involve a left fielder
  16. This wknd, the Giants should be announcing a 2 or 3 year contract with Rich Aurilia Its all but finalized that Drew has signed a 4 year/$56 million deal with an option for a 5th year. I heard on WEEI from Sean MacAdams that there should be a press conference at Fenway today thru Monday concerning JD Drew himself. Im not yet worrying that possibility he's not going to be signed
  17. 1 hole... that being shortstop They could have a slot available if the "I'll do whatever my team asks of me" good guy Wakefield would go to the pen as a middle reliever/spot starter
  18. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6225444 *sigh* Can you say $25 million just to talk to a reliever? With Igawa lacking much of a 3rd pitch, he could end up as a reliever (or at best a 5th starter). Id like to hear some Yankee fan kool-aid on how this is still a good deal by Cashman
  19. Sox can not judge on a bad 2nd half about his offense taking a slide. He rarely had consistent playing time with the Dodgers and had to deal with the league change. Put him in Fenway Park, in division he is used to, against pitchers he's faced before, Id expect a solid 2007 season from him. Now if you dont want Lugo, who is to be had as the starter?
  20. UPDATE: http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/redSox/?p=762 Offered Arbitration: Keith Foulke (supplemental 1st round pick), and Alex Gonzalez Denied Arbitration: Trot Nixon, Mark Loretta, Gabe Kapler, Doug Mirabelli
  21. Thank the lord if this is true http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2006/12/arbitration_dec.html Speculation the Sox could be backing off giving arbitration to Trot
