  1. You do realize the Sox would have to do trades to have Trot be the 4th OF. Drew is all but signed with Boston, bringing back Trot would give them a count of 6 outfielders signed for next year. Also his arbitration cost would be $7-8 million. Nice hit in the payroll as they try to sign Matsuzaka, Drew, Lugo, additional bullpen help (if any), backup catcher, and still possibility they are looking for another starter
  2. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/11/30/sox_nixon_in_07/ The Sox are set to offer Trot arbitration, and he is likely to accept which would roughly be $7-8 million. Kind of a hit to the payroll for one year of Trot. Boston now has an outfield of Manny, Coco, *JDrew, Wily Mo, Trot and Eric Hinske Gordon Edes goes on to speculate a fine scenario in which we would see another year of a Trot/Wily Mo platoon (if Manny is traded)... Yeah fine if you consider Tito loving certain players too much. Its not a platoon if Wily Mo rots on the bench as Trot is given out all the starts including ones against lefty starting pitchers
  3. And the year before, Willis ranked what like 3rd in Cy Young voting? His stats in 2006 were marred by a rought start in the first month or so
  4. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061130&content_id=1748009&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos Okaji will be wearing #40. His agent had said "other teams were offering more money but Boston made the ngeotiations interesting"
  5. Damn he's just owed $2.5 million over the first 2 seasons, and $1.75 if they pick up his 09 option year. Great work by the front office acquiring him, especially how low of a contract they were able to sign him to. Go Okaji!
  6. Philly fans have a new target this season
  7. Josh Beckett Marlins get Hanley Ramirez, Anibal Sanchez, Harvey Garcia, Jesus Delgado Dontrelle Willis Marlins get Melky Cabrera, Humberto Sanchez Yeah Marlins asked that much from Boston because they have pure hatred for them... then take it up the ass by the Yanks for giving up Dontrelle for a lot less than Boston's package for Beckett?
  8. Sweet its actually a 2 year deal with an option for a 3rd year
  9. Okajima has an over the top curveball that is deadly to left-handed hitters. I see him being very valuable in series against the Yankees... including having to face his former teammate Hideki Matsui. This is no kid as he has had 12 years of experience, a good signing by Boston

  11. Hey an actual bullpen signing!! http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=169775&format=&page=1 Hideki Okajima, a left-hander who turns 31, is close to a 2 year agreement with the Red Sox. He had a 2.14 ERA last season in 54.2 innings. He could be used at first as a set up man. He looks like he could be a good addition to the bullpen
  12. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/1164792661139720.xml&coll=2 Wanting to pitch closer to your home huh Foulkie? Cant get any closer to Arizona than playing in Ohio I guess
  13. Bobby Valentine said in an interview. "While Igawa no doubt is a good pitcher, he is not in the same class as Matsuzaka." He also went on to say how Igawa has dregressed over the last 4 years but is still a solid pitcher. Personally I scratch my head on how the Yankees put out near duplicate bid for both pitchers... when 1 is poised to be an ace while the other can only hope to be a MLB #3 starter
  14. Where is it that the Sox have a lot of left-handed hitters? The bench is left handed as it stands right now: Hinske, Murphy, Cora. David Ortiz and JD Drew would be the lone starters, with Coco & Tek being switch hitters.
  15. Just for clarification, Beckett's last game vs the Yankees was a W in which he allowed 2 runs in 6 innings So easily forgotten is that after the Yankees debacle at Fenway, Beckett dominated for 6 consecutive starts
  16. BOS: Jake Peavy Scott Linebrink Adrian Gonzalez SD: Manny Ramirez Mike Lowell (yes they did just trade for a 3rd baseman prospect, but Lowell would be a solid pick up for them as he could help Kouz with his defense a la what Snow did for Youk) cash considerations yes please
  17. Daisuke Matsuzka does have the potential to be better than Wang. Writing him off so quickly I see
  18. Update: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6214970 Craig Counsell is in fact rather close to signing with the Brewers. This will open the avenue for Tony Graffanino to potentially become the Padres everyday 2nd baseman
  19. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6216252 Probably one of the few good deals we will see by teams signing free agents. St. Louis is nearing a 3 year/$10 million contract for 2nd baseman Adam Kennedy
  20. Name the exact compensated draft picks for letting "big" players go, who have went on to produce good numbers for teams they were traded to
