September 15, 2004 -- KANSAS CITY — Gary Shef field threw down the gauntlet last night to Jason Varitek and the Red Sox. No more cheap shots allowed.
"You [take care of business] on the baseball field, you would hope players don't react till the situation and try to harm the other team," Sheffield began when he was asked about Varitek's infamous catcher's mitt slap to Alex Rodriguez' face seven weeks ago in Boston. "But if it came down to it, you've got to do what you've got to do."
Then Sheffield, who always backs up what he says, got down to Boston Business.
"I don't care if these guys hit us or throw at us," he said of the Sawx, eyes locked in on the target. "We ain't gonna stand for it and it definitely ain't going to turn out the way it did the last time."
