  1. Papi bunts with the shift on. haha
  2. Tavarez in…fasten your seatbelts everyone.
  3. Coco is having a great night.
  4. Wasn’t Ted W in the service (WW2) in his mid 20’s?
  5. Pena with an outfield assist in LF to gun down Crawford at 2B.
  6. Years ago the heckler was a funny novelty. Now he underscores what a joke of a ballpark the Trop is.
  7. Kapler should charge the mound and beat the crap out of Fossum.
  8. Nice catch Coco. He has definitely stepped it up over the past week, both in the field and at the plate.
  9. Nice K on Crawford. So far Wells looking much sharper than his other start.
  10. Good start. Coco reaches on an error, steals second, and moves to 3B on a Loretta hit.
  11. I like this idea more and more. Alex Cora is serviceable at 3B but doesn’t contribute a whole lot offensively. If Lowell is out for any extended length of time (which I hope isn’t the case), I think the added bat that Pedroia brings could be what the Sox sputtering offense needs. If this was May I might think otherwise, but now that we’re in a playoff run we need all the offense possible.
  12. Apparently giving up a HR in your first appearance as a Red Sox doesn’t bode well for your future with the team.
  13. Color me interested. I wasn’t expecting to see him up until September but it sounds like it could be much sooner. Meanwhile I'm hoping for the best for Lowell.
  14. It’s almost amazing how Papi has carried the team offensively this year, especially over the past month. Now it’s time for other players to step it up and get it done. Let’s get a big fat lead early on and try to get at least 6 out of Boomer.
  15. Now that Mirabelli is hurt and there’s a good possibility that he might end up on the DL, the Sox once again are forced to look for a backup catcher. They might have been a bit too hasty in DFA’ing Huckaby. He wouldn’t be available until the earliest Wednesday, and that assumes he clears waivers. My guess, as was speculated in yesterday’s game thread, is that we’ll see Corky Miller in Tampa tonight.
  16. It was a borderline bad call from the ump and Bonds had every right to argue and suffer the consequences. That’s what struck me as odd that he sat in the dugout for all that time after the ejection. The Giants fans' reaction was expected and their behavior was deplorable. Were they expecting that Bonds gets treated with a different set of rules when it comes to called strikes?
  17. Given what the asking price was when the Sox showed interest before the deadline, I think it’s safe to say it wasn’t the Sox. If the Braves really did want to move him it would have happened last week.
  18. So I guess you’re of the belief that his plate discipline will never improve with time and development? He’s only 24 and has never had any significant time in the minors to work on this aspect of his game. My impression is that he is making adjustments with his approach at the plate and I believe this will cut down on his labeling as an 'easy out'. For a system that is lacking for power I still think he has major value for the Sox for many years to come. Comparing WMP at this point in his career to Dave Kingman seems a bit unfair. He probably will always have a high K rate, but with his power potential I think it’s something the Sox can live with and work around.
  19. If the Rays FO feel that the Sox did something illegal in contacting Lugo’s agent then why don’t they file some kind of grievance with the commish? My guess is that they don’t have enough grounds to make such an allegation. Filing a vindictive claim on Stern because of this is really unprofessional. Oh, and according to McAdam’s blog, the PTBNL will be Adam Stern.
  20. The talk on EEI is that it will involve a PTBNL, and it won’t be until later on this season until we find out who it is.
  21. Wily Mo is an excellent example of Theo’s long-term plan that frustrates so many people. He’ll never get a break from some because he was tied to the Arroyo trade, and they always cherry-pick his negatives as a basis for their attachment to Arroyo. What other young and devloping power hitters don’t strike out a lot?
  22. Back to his old habits of not making adjustments as he goes deeper into the game.
  23. This sucks because Dougie will be hitting in the 9th for Lowell, right?
  24. Good bunt, but couldn't Huckaby have done that?
  25. Cora pinch hitting for Huckaby.
