Actually, you didn't convince me.  I wanted to trade Duran for an SP until we signed Suarez.  At that point, I loved our rotation, and keeping Duran as our DH/#4 made 100% sense to me.

I don't mind that.  I just object when fans (not necessarily you) think pointing out injuries is making excuses.  The under-performances by Story, Duran and Narvaez hurt us just as much.  But when when you lose the #3 SP in baseball, and your projected #1 hitter, basically for the season, that's tough to overcome.

There is a lot that goes into this.  Before Suarez was signed, I thought we needed an SP.  Trading Duran for a pitcher, prior to that, was akin to a major upgrade to our rotation, and using Yoshida & Romy in a platoon, instead of Duran, was something I could live with.  And even that was before Romy's injury started to look worse,

I don't think they were getting a major rotation piece for trading Duran. If they couldn't get a few years of Paredes, they weren't getting anything better than a 5th starter.

To me, it is on my list of reasons the season went sideways (injuries) but its not 1. It could be 3 or even 2.  I think that early season bad Story should count , and his season except for the end should be considered lost to injury which adds to the total WAR lost to injury.  I dont think early season Story (awful) was the story that injuries took from us....I think he was playing hurt and would have been a .280, 25HR guy had he not gotten hurt.  Not to imply that we shouldnt expect him to get hurt every year.  Just saying that it adds to what you are saying.  The injury cost.
