Not a perfect indicator for runs. I think SLG is a bit better.

Any offensive stat can be improved to help a team.  But SLG isn’t a great indicator either.  Houston pummeled solo HR after solo HR this past year, padded their team SLG up the third best, but finished a very average 13th in runs in runs scored.

Adding power is one potential solution for Boston, but it’s not the only path.  And some power bats like Christian Walker would probably have little impact.  And while maybe he improves, given what his team wants for him, Sox should definitely avoid the incredibly overrated Hunter Goodman…

If MIL can't get to the WS again, they should. Tampa at least has Caminero that can get to 40.

Do you prefer one 40 HR bat or two 20 HR bats?

Adding to the roster? Give me the 40 HR guy at DH/LF to go with Contreras. The Sox lack impact bats.

I do think a 40HR bat (and an assumed 0 HR bat) makes sense over two 20 HR bats..  20 HR seasons just spring out of nowhere and sometimes disappear just as fast.  Lenyn Sosa, for example.  22HRs ladt year when everything went right.  This year? 1.

I don’t think the Sox will be able to add a 40 HR bat.  Maybe if they deal Arias plus. I think getting a guy atop the order that can get on base 36-39% of the time would make for an easier significant improvement…

Contreras will also be gone fairly soon. They need to find a long term bopper.

Still thinking Suzuki.

The Red Sox had their chance last offseason with Alonso. I wonder if they would have known at the time they lowballed him that they wasn’t going to get Bregman if they would have made him a better offer?🤔

It seems like they weren't serious with Bregman anyway??? I think they are still stuck in the "player = $ value per spreadsheet" and won't stretch themselves. Until they realize that you pay a premium to buy FA's, the same way you pay a premium at the trade deadline, they will never be serious bidders in the offseason.

Traded?

He's got 2 control years.

He's 35. Are you talking major decline or retirement/FA in 2 years?

Did I say he's being traded tomorrow? He's not here LONG TERM. "They need to find a long term bopper."

Maybe his complaints about the way the Sox managed the postseason will put him on the Devers Express out of town?

It all depends on how he does next year if there is a next year if the Red Sox will pick up that option for 28. They have to pay him $7.5M anyway.

He's had several "events" occur, this year.

He doesn't bother me. I kinda like he "edge" he brings to the team. That could turn on a dime.

"Fairly soon" sounded ominous.

Justified just like Devers.

They also bailed on Munetaka Murakami and it certainly wasn’t for financial reasons…

And really, he just complained.  Hes not in the same class as Devers, who publicly stated he was not going to do what the team wanted him to do…

26th in HR

20th in SLG

Power outage!

And power outage played a big part in everything around that 32-5, and the early exit from the postseason for the second year in a row.

Giving up 18 runs in two games also played a part…

Ok--let's stop pussy-footin around then.

Who are the 4 most likely possible candidates. Once we figure it out we will send it to Brez.

You must have run out of cheese by now with all that whine you’re still doing. I’ll repeat again DUBin 13-64, and Raffy 37-93.

Nothing on the market like last year, so he’ll have to trade.

This means so much for a guy STILL whining about Pete Alonso.

Devers could have stayed in Boston if he just moved to 1b.  He didn’t want that.  He was a lousy 3b that got upset about being moved off a position he really never played that well.

And from a WAR standpoint that factor in defense, Durbin and Devers were very similar this year…

As it turned out yes, but if those two 1 run ballgames had been different when Dick Tracy went to his playbook by scoring more runs both teams would have played things differently. Lack of run production was huge.

You can war all you want, but it’s still DUBin 13-64, and Raffy 37-98 or Bregman 28-93. It will be even better math when Raffy goes to the Yankees

So you think the Giants are going to give up on Devers? I guess they don’t value 37-93 all that much either…

With how slow the CBO has been to make certain adjustments to the roster, it's pretty soon. Need to plan for it now.

If they could redo last offseason, they may still pass on Murakami because of his 1st percentile whiff and k rates.
