My contention is that J Henry knew or well anticipated that 2027 would be delayed and instructed Brez to act accordingly with long term deals and at the TDL.

Suarez was the exception surprisingly. It is why Tracy and the coaches are all still interim

The boss knew what he was doing

all of that makes sense except for the AR trade. he is a free agent after next season -a season that may not even get played. IMHO, Bresloverpay gave up waaaaaay too much for him and only getting him for the last 1/3 of this season makes it even more ridiculous.

Agree on the negative trade value. But it fits the model because it is a short term commitment.  JH wants to  know the CBA limits going forward  before a major signing. Otherwise the deal would have been to extend Rutschman right away even if the trade looks unbalanced

I think think viewed AR as a major piece for a 2026 ring chase. If he was just a sort of rental, it would be an expensive one but worth it, if he brought a ring. The 2027 control might be a waste, depending on the work stoppage, but maybe an extension was in the plans.

I'm not saying it wasnt an overpay or bad deal, but it may work out well.

Have to extend him to make it work.

That assumes he is doing well, but I guess if he's not the deal sucked anyway.

Yes, exactly.  I have high hopes for AR, it would be great to have a star-level catcher again.  The injury concerns are obviously very real.

100%.

Catchers are extremely hard to find and keep.

....and keep healthy!
