Nice inning by Sandoval. Looking good, let's see if it's sustainable.

It's not

Watching Connor Wong play is obnoxious. He can’t hit. Can’t throw runners out. Doesn’t know the strike zone. I’d rather watch litteraly anybody else play catcher.

All this with 2 outs and a bad choice by Wong

Losers of 5 of last 7  , quickly on the way to this loss.

But best ML. record since All Star break. Keep sliding , boys

Keep  in mind we pitch a young AA kid with very limited and unsuccessful MLB experience and loser Sandoval, an expensive mistake against a team we should have swept.

Why ?  Failure to add a functional mid level starter

Big game for Sandoval, who has been back long enough to start showing he can move towards the type of pitcher he was a few years back.

Take away his first two season with LAA (both under 40 IP) and his last one in 2024, when he may have been pitching injured, he was a more-than-decent SP'er from 2021-2023. Yes, I know that was a very long time ago, but from 2024 to today, he has been recovering from a major injury and surgery. Let's hope the "rehab" is over, and he starts to become more like this....

2021-2023 Patrick Sandoval:

122 ERA+ (3.53 ERA was 38th out of 147 pitchers with 250+ IP)

84 ERA- (placed 27 in MLB among pitchers with 350+ IP) 32 out of 104 with 300+ IP and 35 out of 147 with 250+. That's a solid #2 pitcher by just ERA- and FIP.

3.72 FIP (45th/107)

7.5 FWAR in 380 IP (5.7 bWAR)

I'm not predicting today or any day will be his revival day, but I do think there is hope he can regain what he once had.

Hope is not a winning strategy

Brilliant strategy by the Flops. Tanking at just the right time for the Guardians to take over WC2.

Granted that catchers rarely play 150-155+ games, but here is his GS totals:

146 2023 is career high (110 C/ 46 DH)

141 2024 (103 C/45 DH)

84 2025 (73 C/ 18 DH)

61 2026 (49 C/12 DH)

Brez  will be lucky if he gets a 80-90 game catcher out of Rut. DH reps only if he's a .750-.780 OPS hitter. Sox have plenty DHs in that Range.

Big overpay panic move

he's all we got to show for the Mookie trade

Damn Sandoval, it is 3 outs per inning, not 2.   He has nothing in terms of command/ control nor contribution to winning

Moon, can you give us the starting rotation for September? I'm not convinced we have the playoff spot locked. One injury to our starter (pitcher) will sink us.

Is it time to bring back Bello to pitch the 1st inning?

yes

Imagine trading Betts to LAD and not getting a single notable player back

Wong has been a workable backup with some usefulness. Downs was a disaster.  The headcase problem child in RF was no help (Vertigo Verdugo)

I think most anyone on this board could have picked a better return

Fortunately, the Sox FO hasn't made any bad trades since.

Wong Ks on a pitch literally 17" out and in the dirt.

Hard to see how confusing pitch recognition (spin) is to a CATCHER

But then have you seen him catch?

Good hitters clobber mistakes. Poor hitters foul them off.

 But enough about Seattle hitters

Glad to see Bello in and would like him to 5th through 9.

Need to see if he can reestablish some pitching skill after the NYY outing
