The Boston Red Sox are set to call up RHP Wyatt Olds from the WooSox before today’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks according to Section 10's Tyler Milliken.

Olds currently sports a 5-6 record on the season with a 5.33 ERA over 50.2 innings pitched. He’s secured five saves over the season as well.

Although no corresponding move has been announced as of this writing, Olds will likely replace LHP Raymond Burgos in the bullpen as the team looks to maximize their minor-league pitching depth that can help the big-league club as they navigate a world without both Garrett Whitlock and Justin Slaten for the foreseeable future. Expect this to be a fairly constant roster shuffle for the Red Sox until they start to get their leverage arms back.

Olds features a four-pitch mix that includes a four-seam fastball that tops out at 96.8 mph, a slider, cutter, and a changeup. It will be interesting to see where he slots in the bullpen mix since very few spots are currently locked down, but it stands to reason he may only be up for the bullpen game that is planned for game one of the series against Arizona.

Can w thee hit 39 (3 x 13?) Probably not.

Yeah, but I don't believe the Sox ever had a Wyatt or an Olds before.

Do you remember Impossible Dream team pitcher John Wyatt?

Edit - per Baseball Reference, not only have the Sox never had an Olds, no one has.  He’s the first one ever to make the majors.

Good for Wyatt Olds. Hope he can get a K or two. Has some intriguing stuff, but hasn't ever put it together.

For all the talk about the Sox not being able to take position players and transition them to the MLB level, they seemingly are great at it with pitchers; both inside and outside the organization.  It's going to be interesting to see what Bailey can do with him when he is in the club house daily up in Boston.

But there have been plenty of Youngs…

There was overlap with Wyatt Olds and Wyatt Mills in Worcester which was confusing for some of us freaks that are in too deep.

Wyatt Olds wasn't lighting up the boxscores either. The difference is that Olds has decent stuff and Song doesn't.

A lot more swing and miss and doesn't give up a ton of hits either.  The stuff is good.  Olds seems like the classic guy who is going to stick in the bigs if he can improve the control.

he currently has a 0% BB percentage so........
