Devers Trade looks fantastic now....

Then again, the 3-6-3 DPs are what has made Contreras such a defensive plus at 1B this year. 

Can you imagine Red Sox Nation holding their breaths every time Raffy fielded a grounder at 1B with a runner breaking for 2B, and turned to fire it towards the Green Monster... that's a lot of blue faces.

I wanted to keep him as the DH, but now think it was a good move by Breslow, especially with Durbin at 3b and Contreras at 1b.  

That said, right now Devers' OPS is .865 with 37 dingers and 98 rbi's.  He has played in 148 games.  No one on the Sox comes close to those numbers. 

On the other hand, Abreu, Rafaela, Contreras, and Durbin all have higher WAR's than Devers' 3.7.

We knew that he couldn’t field when he came up, but we loved that bat.  Now, apparently, his extraordinary bat is not enough to tolerate his glove.  We had Big Papi for 13 seasons as a dedicated DH.  Isn’t that still a position?

People were upset they didn't sign Schwarber, but are happy about Devers being traded away. Similar salaries and similar production. What's the difference? Devers is signed for 3 more years, but is 4 years younger.

Devers at DH or 1B was the obvious solution years ago.

I guess his tolerance level was one position change per year and per team.
