I'd say that's 100% correct.  I'd bet that every GM has a huge board with almost every available name on it.  And a number next to every name.  And the numbers probably change every time the names change.  If they had $150M/5 for Bregman, and Mil gives them a number on Durbin, maybe Bregman's number goes down to $135M/5.

If you look at their 2027 board, I'm betting they have Story/Arias/Monasterio on top.  But if Yordie becomes available, maybe the board looks more like Story/Monasterio/Arias.

But mostly, I would argue that nobody was "plan A".

Article on ESPN Jan 12 2026, which stated the  Red Sox went into the offseason with the top priority of Resigning 3B Alex Bregman. Do you have anything that states differently?? Top priority, plan A, ist option call it what you like, and argue all you want, but who you’re really arguing with is Brez.

Dec 2026 Pete Abrahm. Sources inside the Red Sox org say retaining Alex Bregman is the team’s top priority. Wonder if they are still in the mix for Alonso Anyone have anything to refute any of this outside of speculations?

1-I thought you said that signing Alonso was Plan A.  If Alonso is no longer Plan A, which he obviously wasn't, and you are now agreeing with me when I said " They made a legit offer to Bregman, so you could make an argument there.", then thank you for finally agreeing with me.  But you could've saved yourself about 20 posts by agreeing with my obvious logic the first time.

2-Now that you finally agree with me, so what?  The Cubs outbid us.  That happens to every team.  Again, it is not the goal of every MLB to make life easy on us.

I said all along that Alonso was offered a contract first to go along with Bregman, which was reported, but I don’t see any reports the Red Sox had any talks with the Cardinals about the Con Man until after Alonso signed with the O’s, which some have tried to suggest. Find any? Legit offer to Bregman. What was it? They pissed Bregman off with the first lowball offer to begin with. As usual you’re late to the party with No facts, so the only thing we agree on, which is the overwhelming opinion that I’ve heard in RSN IS bresLOW Botched the whole thing. If you can’t come back with any facts to disprove anything don’t bother with pure speculation.👋

What did he botch?  Contreras instead of Alonso or Durbin instead of Bregman?

I like the optimism, but the Sox final regular season game is September 27, just less than 2 months ( call it 9 weeks) .  The bone healing period will be minimum 6 weeks, and rehab of the idled arm/wrist will be at least 3 more.

At best, Mead could be considered for the playoffs, but very rusty.

Agree, not hitting for that long will be a problem for Mead and the Sox.
