Romero's problem is that his glove is mediocre and he switched from a contact guy to a power guy. The manager loves him, but he took a big step back this season. At least he's stayed healthy recently. 

Bleis hasn't had a decent season since the FCL. I don't see anything there with him.

I've kinda given up on these 3, but prospects sometimes bloom later.

Futrell might be a sleeper. He had a good day: 8K and 0BB in 5 IP. (5H and 2 ER) Winnay had 3 hits w HR and Brannon & Cespedes had 2 hits.

WOO lost. KC went 1-3 w 2B & BB (.746)

Jackson hit his 18th in the GRE win.

Franklin had a great at bat -- with two outs and a 2-2 count, fouled off 5 consecutive low and outside sweepers... pitcher Richard Gallardo then bounced one, allowing a run to score, then hung one, which Arias ripped up the middle for a well-earned single. The worn-out Gallardo then gave up a double to Eaton, and a walk to Gasper, until Romy drilled a bases-loaded two-run single to put Woo ahead.

The entire rally was ignited by Arias, now one of only two minor leaguers with at least a .315 BA and 23 HRs (the other is Zac Veen, 4 years older and 73 pounds heavier).

I'm trying to avoid getting too excited about a prospect, but Arias is making that near impossible. If we could just pencil him into the SS position for 6 years and do well, our everyday roster would look pretty damn solid for many years to come...

Maybe we fill 1B with Gonzales, Mead or some sort of Romy/Casas/Winnay/Brannon mix. Replacing Duran might be addition by subtraction. Wong is the back-up catcher, so...

Romy's no prospect, but he went 4-5 tonight. Wehunt pitched okay in the loss.

POR got drilled badly.

GRE lost 4-2, but Brown pitched well, and Gonzales & Gutierrez both  had 2 hits.

SAL made it 0-4 for the Sox farm, as Delzine did poorly. Primera and Maginnis homered.

Holobetz is trying to show he's not at the top of the rotation depth chart. 2.2 IP, 6 hits, 6ER, 2BB & 4Ks. WOO lost 9-6. Romero (12) and Delay (3) homered. Delay had 3 hits. Nobody else had 2.

POR lost 8-6. Remember, all 4 farm teams lost yesterday. Winnay went 2-4 w a dinger. Maybe he gets promoted to AAA. He's at .831. Woo currently has Romy & Hickey at 1B.

GRE & SAL play this evening.

Gonzales with 2 dingers and YRod with one. 14 hits and 5 BBs in GRE's win. Gonzales 3-4 (.854) Ge Rod 3-3 w 2 BB, Hull 2-5 (.869) Schaffner Kd 4 times going 1-5. That was the only win in the Sox system.

SAL lost 8-5 as Salazar hit his 10th. Primera 1-3 w 2 BB and 3 runs scored (.983) Brito 2-4 (.753) Jose Bello got rocked (6ER in 4 IP with 8 hits and 5BB!)

SP mentioned him on their latest podcast. They consider him a low end talent as his velo just isn't there. His fastball is only 88 mph. His pitch mix is playable at lower levels, but he'll eventually get beat up as he progresses.

Not many pitchers make and succeed in the bigs with an 88 mph fastball, but the ones who do/did were told the same thing.

Some small sample sizes, but here are his numbers:

2.37 SAL '25 ,642 OPSA

1.09 GRE '25 .487

0.00 SAL '26 .171 (9IP)

4.22 GRE '26 .757 (not horrible)

5.40 POR '26 ,810 (Bad, but he did well his last game.)

He's certainly a longshot.

They also said that 18 year old DSL guys like Delzine don't have great track records either. Keep that in your back pocket. 

The system is ranked 21st on BA and would be bottom 5 if Arias graduated. Pitching depth is gone. Need the drafted bats to really make waves. 

On Brannon, they said that his whiff rate is giving them a lot of pause. That guys like him just rarely work out (see: Bobby Dalbec).

I understand how whiff rates matter more for prospects than I usually care about. MLB has a ton of high K guys, now, so maybe he can not get worse as he is promoted, but yes, it's a concern. (101Ks in 286 ABs is frightening. The 19 HRs and 45 HBH/286 might not carry him.

What's the concern on Delzine? Being too raw?

That was exactly it.  In terms of stuff and performance for his age the kid is going fine, it's just the flame out rate for kids as young and raw as he is is just so astronomically high. 

Kid could be a #1 starter some day, but there's a higher probability he never sniffs the majors.

The overall track record on DSL pitchers isn't great. I think there's only 3 guys in the top 30 of fWAR this year that were DSL. There was a report recently about how few high end DSL pitchers there have been in MLB.

It's the norm. The vast majority of successful starting pitchers come via the draft.

He's on the Luis Perales track having missed a lot of time due to injury and only peaking at 63 IP in a season. I wouldn't count on him being in the Sox rotation ever.

I think he'd have to come back and look pretty good for that to happen. 

I know there are those in the Sox organization who still think he has the highest ceiling of any pitcher in the Sox system and that was before the trade deadline. 

New guy on my radar who I'm curious to see a break out from is Martin Shelar, although that may not come until 2027.  He has legit 80 raw power.
