Cespedes hit his 8th dinger (.911) and Guzman his 3rd in GRE's loss. Berrios got lit up.

I did not realize until I read it today that Cespedes suffered from hamate bone surgery all last season. 
 

thus far, a healthy hand and wrist has been very beneficial to his overall numbers.

I remember listening to an old soxprospects.com podcast, when KC was hitting in the minors but right before he blew up nationally.  

The scouting report on him then was how polarizing he was to scouts.  Some scouts absolutely loved him and others thought his swing was to uppercutty and he'd get exposed at the higher level. 

I'm not sure if they should have never messed with his swing and just let him hit the way he always has, or if he needs more time to make these adjustments. 

I always liked KC, and I'll be rooting for him to put it all together but I always thought the extension was way way way too premature.  I like the ideal of extending guys early, but I think they jumped the gun on KC.

They were afraid he'd become a complete superstar and they'd have to trade him to the Dodgers after refusing to pay him fair market value when he entered his prime. 

They weren't afraid to risk $60 million over eight years, knowing they'd probably lose that to him in a few rounds of arbitration if he lived up to his Barry Bonds nickname.

A multi-billion dollar company can afford to pay the IKFs of the world $6 million per to sit on the bench.

POR won 1-0, and the big news was they K'd the opps

20 times!

Wehunt went 5 IP, 4H with 11 Ks and 1 BB. Halligan fanned 6 in 2IP and Adams 3 in 2IP. This after Bennett K'd 11 in 5 IP. yesterday for a record. Alcantara went 3 for 4. The team had just 4 hits.

Woo scored 4 in the first and lost 9-4, despite walking 7 times.

Other games were rained out or in a rain delay.

I don't think it's so black and white, it's not like there's a thin line where it's all team leverage and all player leverage. 

If wait a few years yes the price tag may go up, but if you're buying out 4-5 years of control the team still has lots of leverage.

Yeah, there isn't a big difference between one day in MLB and 4 months in MLB in terms of leverage. Even a year and a half shouldn't up the price tag too much IMO. Even if it goes up 2M AAV, that's not the end of the world for a team like the Sox. At least make sure the guy is able to stick in MLB before he's getting his deal.

With Bello, we only added 1 year of control.

With Anthony, KC & Rafaela I think it was 3 more with options.

But how much did we really gain with KC? he spent most of last year in the minors and I'm assuming all of this year as well.
