I'd say a lot of Sox fans wouldn't know who Andruw Monasterio is.

We had someone in here lambasting Abreu.  I believe there are fans in here that know very little about the team.  Which is fine, but then they should soften their opinions.

OBP remains the single stat with the strongest correlation to runs scored.  You score the most runs by not making outs.

I'm still wondering why the focus on OBP went out of style.

It's only gone out of style for the RS.  The top 10 teams in OBP are averaging 5.00 RPG.  The RS?  Not so very much.

Just for fun, the league average is .320, and we have 3 starters at .250 or under.

Out of 176 players that meet the FG minimum PAs, we have the #170, the #172, and the #173.  That's almost impossible.

Contreras 24th

Abreu 31st

Those are the only good hitters on the team.

OBP is not the "talk" anywhere, but yes, the Sox actions show it is no longer "the thing." 5 are at .300 or lower.

The Rays have Mullins with a .195 OBP, but the rest of their top 13 players are all over .314! They have 5 top guys at .339+.

The Yanks have 2 guys at .280 and .281 and the rest are over .300.

TOR has 3 guys between .269 and .292 and 6 over .314. 5 are over .329.

BAL comes kinda close to the Sox:

.233 Mayo

.258 Henderson

.259 Jackson and their #10 guy is at .280.

They have 5 guys over .331.

Nobody else even shows signs of becoming one.

I miss the old Red Sox line ups that knew how to work counts and would often have the starting pitcher out of the game in the 5th inning (when starters were regularly going 7 innings.)  Not only are we not getting on base, we're not making the opposing pitchers work, especially in the first inning.  We are 27th in pitches/plate appearance.

Apparently, the more specialized and improved pens negated the need to boot the SP'er out of the game as early as possible, but that shouldn't mean walks are not still a powerful tool on offense.
