It would not be pick 1-5 vs 150: it would likely be 5-10 vs 20-25. At most maybe #3 vs #27.

I’ll take the higher pick since that player is more likely to be more talented. Not a certainty by any means- just playing the odds.

Agreed, but why say pick 1-5 vs 150-155? That's not what a losing season vs a winning one creates.

To illustrate the point I took a radical example. If you like we could use something more realistic but the point remains that higher draft picks generally have a greater chance of being more talented than lower draft picks. Therefore, if you're not going to make a reasonable run in Oct why not obtain the most talented picks you can in preparation for the upcoming years?
