Fastball in the geometric center of the strike and Campbell whiffs.

Well, he can celebrate that at bat thanks to a dribbler for an easy out.  Houston, we have contact!

Campbell is not even a good outfielder. The guy is tagging up and he doesn't get back to get behind the ball so he can fire to 3B. He is really not athletic.

That has nothing to do with being unathletic (and I agree he’s not the most athletically gifted guy on the field).  It is one of those fundamental things but I’ll give him a slight break in that he hasn’t played much OF.

Fair enough. But, if can't field and can't hit, where are you still in Boston?

This ump hasn't given Crochet much.

Story smashed that one.

Also proof that a homer counts the same if it goes 1 foot over the fence or 100 feet.  Aaron wasn’t noted for tape measure shots but he still trotted around the bases 750+ times.

He's just an average runner. He doesn't have arm. He just looks very tentative right now. I don't think he's athletic. So he's unathletic.

I'm old school. Athleticism to me equates to track and field running events. In my sport, I look for quick feet, quick and high jumper, strong arm.

That 95 mph fastball is hittable.

I haven't seen many changeups, but he is throwing more breaking stuff than usual  .

Aaron was a wrist hitter.  Very seldom did Aaron over swing.

All of which is true but not getting momentum into the throw had nothing to do with athleticism; it’s a fundamental that a true OF knows to do.

I said he’s not the most athletically gifted guy on the field, but that’s a relative term.  He’s a better athlete than some and nowhere near others.  Compared to any of us, he’s world class.

He was definitely that.

You left 2 things out.  He can't play 2b and right now his hitting is awful.

One more time.  Was Crochet's wild pitch catchable by Wong?

I answered that on page 1:

“No.  Crochet spiked a changeup and it hopped up about 5 feet.  Bench or Pudge Rodriguez wouldn’t have stopped it.”

  • Speaking of Bench, he has extremely large hands. Large hands are an advantage in every sport.

Good check swing.  Man on first.

That's at least 3 well hit outs.

If Mayer holds off on that last swing for the K, the Sox rookies would have 3 BB's to the rest of the Sox 0 BB's.  Is it possible Seattle is pitching carefully to those two?

Four hard hit balls right to someone.

After 5, Crochet has 6 K's, 0 BB's, 6 hits, and 1 ER.  And 84 pitches.

That's at least twice the ump took a strike away from Crochet--but both were close, not completely in the zone.  It was a changeup the ump screwed him on.  K anyway.  Crochet is one tough dude--he's now at 90 pitches.

Not that I believe in CERA, but I think Wong has been OK today, at least for 6 innings.

Wild applause for Crochet.
