The Yankees are losing close games with sometimes sloppy defense. Remind you of anybody?

Defense didn't help last night, but with the way the offense is playing there's no margin for error. Yanks pitching/ defense has given up 2.67 runs per game the last 6 games (and no more than 4 runs in any game). So to lose every single one of those games is strictly on the offense.

Sometimes teams get into losing mode. They will find a way to lose. Then something happens to snap them out of it. They start to play loose and with confidence. It seems odd, but it happens.

Yankees: Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz, RHP (No. 6)
Carlos Narvaez has been a revelation for the Red Sox since they acquired him from the Yankees at the Winter Meetings, but the pitching prospect New York received in return also has looked good. A fourth-rounder from a Puerto Rico high school in 2021, Rodriguez-Cruz ranks no worse than fourth in the High-A South Atlantic League in ERA (2.70), strikeouts (74 in 60 innings), opponent average (.172) and WHIP (1.03). His fastball parks at 93-96 mph and peaks at 98, while both his mid-80s slider and upper-70s curveball are effective.

How long will this down stretch go on?

Some fun facts about the losing streak;

- The 30 inning scoreless streak was the 5th longest in Yankees history

- During the scoreless streak the Yankees only had a man reach 3rd base in 2 of those innings (both during extra innings)

- During the last 7 days before last night's win, 9 of their 10 regulars in the lineup had a wRC+ under 60 (100 is league average), and 5 out of those 9 had negative wRC+

What part of Brooklyn are you from?

I was born in Red Hook, grew up in Sunset Park. I went to Xaverian. Do you remember a place called The Snook Inn on 86th St? How about Chadwick's?

Yep I went to Xaverian too (graduated about 20 years ago). My parents still live in Bay Ridge but I'm living out in Queens now. I do remember Chadwick's but not that other place, must be before my time.

I graduated in 1987.

Do you know the Irish Haven on 58th & 4th? How about the Wicked Monk?

I know Wicked Monk. They moved from their old location to over by the Verrazano Bridge. It's become a cop bar now. Haven't been there in several years but I'm pretty sure it's still around.

Yup, it's still there, I remember both locations. I have a buddy that tends bar at the Kettle Black.

Kettle Black is a great spot. I'll pickup wings from there occasionally when I'm visiting my parents. It was also one of my go to bars when I was under 21 and using my chalked ID to go drinking.

They have great wings. Ask for Charlie the bartender. Tell him Brendan's buddy Ed down in Ft Lauderdale says hello.

The Yankees bullpen is struggling a wee bit.

It's just one of the many problems they've struggled with over the past month. From extended team-wide slumps on offense, to abysmal hitting with RISP, to bad defensive gaffes at crucial points in the game, to dumb baserunning late in games, to stupid managerial decisions (though this is year round)... June was certainly a month to forget in Yankeeland, and July isn't starting out any better.

The Yankees have lost all of the lead they had built early on. More and more, opponents are pitching around Judge.  They have a number of problems. It will be interesting to see if they can turn things back around.

Far be it from me to defend the Yankees, but they still have the second best run differential in baseball, tied with the Tigers at +103.  The Cubs are +108.  The Yankees are 7 wins under their Pythagorean W-L.  They should have a 4-game lead on the Rays and an 11-game lead over the Blue Jays.

Ok, that's enough of that.  I really hope the Yankees struggles continue.  LOL

The rumor is that the Yankees are holding tryouts for relief pitchers in the Yankee Stadium parking lot this afternoon. All are welcome to participate.

I made the first cut after striking out Volpe three times on some wicked 70 mph heaters/changeups. But I dropped out after his dad cursed me out, I don't need that kind of negativity in my life.

Which can mostly be attributed to devin williams late game blow ups, not that there aren't other contributors.

The late game blow ups are definitely the most glaring and most memorable.  Williams, no doubt, shares in the blame.  That said, there is so much that goes on during the course of the game that it's hard, and unfair IMO, to attribute any loss or win to one player.

The Yankees are 16-7 in blowout games and 12-18 in one run games.  That's the sign of a very good and somewhat unlucky team.  It pains me to say it, but I have to give credit where credit is due.

That said, since June 13th, the Boston series, the Yankees have a -12 run differential.  Maybe the Yankees are coming back down to earth.  One can hope.

Yup, pretty close to mediocre.

I guess I should be happy that the Yankees beat the Mariners, since that's the team we're currently chasing in the wildcard, but I'm not.  I'm glad the Mariners lost, but I'm not happy the Yankees won.  Oh, the internal battles I face every day.  LOL

We will pass the negative run differential Mariners.
