That inning went south when Abreu decided that the first pitch low and away would be a good one to get Casas over to third.

These young free swingers may connect on ocassion but show little baseball sense in their approach.

Do you send Kenley out for another inning?  I do.  With this part of the Yankee lineup, you have to use the best you’ve got.  Need 6 outs to win the game anyway.

I wasn't questioning AC's tactics on holding the tie, but after the quick inning I thought  we might see Kenley for at least 1 or 2 in the 10th

The hitting is atrocious and  another missed opportunity to make a move.  I called it over when they lost the Sunday game to the WS

Crappy loss after a gutsy outing by Criswell.

Before tonight's Oh-fors by Duran and Devers...

Duran .541 in previous 13 games.

Devers .486 in previous 19 games (.431 last 12 gms.)

Our best 2 hitters have tailed off.

Winckowski got the short straw in the BP roulette game. You took one for the team, Josh.

Yeah.  Not much you can do about a perfectly placed grounder.

Funny, I've seen nothing in Devers' swings or defense that display a sore shoulder(s).

What I have seen is that he stunk offensively in the last month of last season, also. I'm not saying he isn't a little banged up, but 90% of everyday players are banged up at this time of the season.

They are what they are.  A flawed .500 team.

Smoltz doesn’t say much intelligently, but he did have a point when he said the kids going through this “chase” should pay dividends in future years.

Would you have put Soto on ? Try for a double play with Judge ?

Pick your poison with that duo. Soto had struck out twice and they did get to 2 strikes on him.  Judge had hit the ball pretty hard 3 times IIRC.  We also don’t know how the two of them have fared against Winckowski.

i guessing they would have walked Judge had they gotten Soto.

That makes sense, and I feel stupid not even thinking of that. I guess Cora and I are just plain stupid.

BTW, a couple of weeks ago Cora made a statement that he was gonna manage the last games of the season as if they were PO games. Tonight didn't look like PO managing.

I believe what dgale posted was the right move. I credit dgale that his brain was still functioning in the 10th. Both my brain and Cora's had already stopped functioning.

Pro players are banged up this time of year, but there’s a difference between playing hurt and playing injured.  You can play hurt, playing injured is different.

Raffy did miss several games a couple weeks ago and they said it was shoulder related.  I’m guessing it more serious than just hurt, and if it were June, he probably be on the IL for a few weeks. I’ll give him full credit for trying.  Ditto Story for busting his butt getting back for the last 20-25 games of the season.  That also shows the kids something.

Yes. If he gets Soto , they definitely put Judge on.

Looked it up.  Going into tonight,  Soto was 0-3 vs. Winckowski.  Judge was 1-3 with 2 walks..  As with virtually all matchups, small sample sizes.

Josh got the ground ball, just in a bad spot at a bad speed.  A more accurate throw nails the runner, but I’m not faulting Rafaela for that after fielding a ball charging hard to his right.

As I've already posted walking Soto was the right move. Don't change your position when you're absolutely correct.

He didn’t change his position, he was agreeing with my statement that they would have walked Judge if they had gotten Soto.

In any event, they were screwed after they failed to do anything in the top of the 10th.

An important part of the equation is that Judge has been in a slump for the last couple of weeks.

When the SOX didn't score in the top of the 10th, I'd pretty much turned my mind off in the bottom of the 10th.

I'm not changing my position. I would have walked Soto. Just saying that if they had gotten Soto out, they would surely put Judge on.

There was no reason to pitch to Soto.  The winning run was on 2nd because the anemic SOX offense didn't score in the top of the tenth.

I believe the Yankems would have scored anyway, but, like I've already posted many times, not walking Soto was just plain bad managing.

Agree. I would like to hear Cora's take on it. He will probably say what Illinois said about pick your poison.  I think Soto was more dangerous in that situation.

That’s the type of info that none of us really know but Cora et al does.  I have no idea how Soto has been hitting, but that’s neither here nor there.  I don’t think either one of them has been tearing the cover off the ball.

It’s all good for discussion; sure beats Fred whining about pitch recognition and Little League defense.

Very true. And another good pitching performance was wasted again.
