MLB is a bit hypocritical about this. Merely putting runners on base gives hitters chances to break RBI records with greater ease. But adding more games for a home run record created this whole decades-long controversy…

Not sure this has any relevance.

The ghost runner does achieve the purposes of reducing game times and decreasing the total innings that pitchers throw.

Without reducing the number of games or ticket revenues.

So it's a win-win except for purists.

It does what they wanted to do - shorten games. Plus it created a fun situation in today’s DBacks-Cubs game after Arizona didn’t score in the top of the tenth.

Ghost runner Mike Tauchman assumed 2b.

Arizona LHRP Joe Mantiply gave an IBB to Dansby Swanson

Miguel Amaya beat out a sac bunt on the first pitch..

Cubs loaded the bases on ONE PITCH!

The main problem, imho, is the 30 teams in MLB. Too many teams and not enough true talent, which uncovers the overflow of mediocrity in today's game.

This is true in the other 3 major team sports, but it seems to be more exposed in baseball.

I'm a purist, but like the rule because I think extra inning games can take forever and unfairly overuse the pitching staffs of the teams involved.

Could not agree more. I think 4 or 5 really good teams in MLB would be optimal. Get rid of those nasty errors, lousy pitches, weak swings, etc We need to keep the game pure.

So, instead of expanding to 32 teams, which is probably goin g to happen, someday, would you prefer we contract to 28 teams (4 x 7 team divisions) or maybe 27 (realign to 3 x 9 team divisions.)

Yup. The Dodgers are by far a superior team, even without Betts and Kershaw.

Leading going into the 8th inning means ZILCH. Coulda woulda shoulda.

I know what I see in this team. If you paid attention you would see the same thing: a team not quite ready for prime time though they have played over their heads for the first half of the season or so. This still is not a playoff team as currently constructed.

Agree the Dodgers are better and certainly better constructed. If anything, the 2024 Sox were deconstructed. They are basically a bunch of no-names,. I think that's why attendance has been down 2022-2024.

As for the first 2 games in the series, we saw the Dodgers prevail because they had the better bullpen. Both Sox starters outpitched their Dodger counterparts, which is why the Sox had the lead through 7 innings in game 1 and through 8 1/2 innings in game 2.

Then Bernardino came in and absolutely destroyed the Sox with his miserable showing in game 1. In game 2 Jansen stunk, Winck stunk, and Weissert stunk.

I don't disagree the Dodgers have a ton of big names on their team and the Sox don't. Their CBO/GM is definitely better than ours, and ownership is far more willing to support a big payroll.

But that does not mean the Sox are lousy because they've already taken 4/6 from the Yankees (2d highest payroll in MLB) and 2/3 from the Phillies (4th highest payroll, best W-L record in MLB).

Cool, but inaccurate.

It's accurate that we're outside of a playoff spot right now.

Not that this a team that could make the playoffs. They're in the hunt.

Also, is the sole reason why some of you (and I'm including you) follow the Red Sox is to whine incessantly? That takes a toll on one's mental health.

Shows just how quickly a changing tide affects outlooks.

We have two games in hand vs most teams, and we'll need to win both to keep pace with KCR and MIN. One good thing is, MIN and KCR play each other 6 more times.

Also, we play 3 at KCR in early AUG, and MIN plays 3 @ BOS in SEP. Our fate can be in our own hands, if we can beat them both- head to head, and keep pace in the rest of the games.

A lot of baseball left to go. We need to beat COL, now- one game at a time.

For me the whining is cathartic and therefore improves my mental health.

My whining is principally about ownership and their failure to be fully invested in the team.

I just don't trust them any more.

Chronic complaining can damage friendships, increase mental and physical tension, and decrease energy and creativity.

But what we're talking about here isn't even the real world. It's just a baseball team.

Accurate.
