Thanks for starting the game thread.

Decent lineup. O'Neill out another game, but Ref this year hits righties better. And Abreu, Rafaela, and Duran are the best outfield. Hamilton and Grissom both hit righties better than Gonzalez.

Watching the Dodgers/Mets game and saw this interesting stat:

Dodgers' batters 1-4 have a combined BA of .310 which is 1st in the NL.

Dodgers' batters 5-9 have a combined BA of .206 which is last in the NL.

Very interesting, and here we thought our 7-9 slots batting .578 was as bad as it can get.

According to modern line-up metrics, the 5 slot is worth more than the 3 slot, and the 5 slot (.606) for us has been worse than 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 and almost as bad as the 7 slot at .600.

4 slot: .861 (mostly Devers, Abreu & Casas)

6 slot is more spread out, with Dominic having the most PAs (52 and a .603 OPS up 6th) Surprisingly, Yoshi hi 1.109 in the 6 slot and has the second most PAs (28), there. .881 by Copper in 21 PAs. (Wong, O'Neill, Romy, Casas & Abreu have been monsters in the 6 slot, but with few PAs.)

Great stuff, but right now I'm hung up on the collective lineup, way more than individual slots, and that's because the collective lineup this season is so inexperienced. Except for Devers.

To me that 8th inning 3-run "rally" by the Sox last night at Camden Yards was no such thing. Up by 11-0 in the 8th, the Orioles reliever walked the first 3 Sox batters, after which his 2d pitch to Gonzalez was a fastball right down the middle, which turned into a triple. Out goes Vieira and in comes Perez, who gets Smith to fly out in short LF, Rafaela to K, and Duran to K--all while Gonzalez sat on 3b waiting to come home.

In other words, those 3 runs were a gift from Viera.

Now that was different. Granted, Duran and Wong K'd, but the dinger, double, single, and 2 runs weren't chopped liver.

Here's hoping Bello has his good stuff and especially good command tonight.

After 10 pitches by Bello, Orioles have 2 on and no one out. And pitch #11 is still another pitch in the dirt.

I have seen enough of Bello to save me from watching him through the rest of his extension. Turns a 2-0 lead into a 3-2 shitshow , still with only 1 out.

Turns out he does not have either command nor control

Two major sins, so far, by Bello. Walking a guy after being ahead 0-2 and giving up a hit on an 0-2 count.

Fortunately, the SOX have an ACE at this point in the season, but it ain't the guy many thought it would be.

That guy, imho, may be able to peak as a middle of the rotation pitcher.

With an 0-2 count, Bello hits the batter on a very WP. Bases loaded with a run in and 1 out.

Then gives up a 2 run single on the next 0-2 count

Signing him early was a totally mistake.

But what if he became an ace? The extension would have cost way more!

What about the Sox fielding? Could the grounder to Devers have been a GIDP? Could the grounder to Grissom have been an out?

Ace? I didn’t/don’t see that kind of talent in that arm.

That play could have been a marginal shot at a DP, softly hit, Grissom was positioned well to right of second for the LH hitter. He would have to have been closer to the base for a shot at DP

Neither do I, but Bello isn't being paid anywhere near what an ace gets.

Grissom only reached the ball with a dive into the OF grass, and sort of turned the wrong way for a throw to first. Again pretty marginal shot at the runner.

Bello is going to be around 4.2 ERA at the end of his career. i.e. No 4. kind of pitcher in my book.
