  1. 1. Are the extensions good or bad?

    • Both extensions are good for the Sox
    • Both extensions are overpays
    • Bello’s is good, Rafaela’s is an overpay

Cora didn’t have very many options for SS. He has Rafaela, Hamilton, and maybe Romy Gonzalez. All things considered, Rafaela is the best choice there. But there’s a decent chance this is one position the Sox do upgrade at over the next week…

And since DHam bats LH'd, playing Rafaela at SS allows for DHam and Romy to platoon at 2B, where their splits help our 2B position to not be the auto out it has been for a long time. (Not horrible on D either.)

Next year should see Rafaela back in CF. I doubt it happens, this year, unless we trade Abreu and go with O'Neill/Ref in RF.

I think defensive metrics are a very dubious stat. We have seen Rafaela make some very nice plays at shortstop. That being said, he is definitely better in center. Duran is another good example of the unreliability of defensive metrics. His have changed drastically in one year. Is it that he has suddenly improved that much or could it be they were mistaken to begin with ? If you like digging up those numbers, fine. I would rather just watch the games and form my own opinion.

I except the fact there are so many numbers thrown out there today, and some can’t function without them, which is fine too, but like you I could care less about all those numbers, and just watch, and enjoy the games. A bobbled, ball, and a bad throw is still an error, and is there for all to see if you are watching.

Oh yeah, everyone can see the bobbled balls and bad throws.

The hard part to measure is which guys cover the most ground and get to balls that others don't on a regular basis.

I get all that part of it, but it just doesn’t make that much of a difference to me. Cora says he makes his lineup out based on who’s pitching on that particular day, and not on what’s going to be the best defensive team on that particular day. If one guy is better on D, because of it great. If your team is so deep, and good that you can make out the lineup based on who’s better on D, and with the bat, and it turns out the same person then that’s good too, but I don’t think there are to many of them. The most important thing on D is making the routine play, because there are more of them.

It means we want him on that wall! We need him on that wall! Plan B right now is Hamilton…

I'd rather plan C.

Eye test above replacement.

It seems we need, and want different things. I know that’s hard to comprehend, and except, but that’s the way it is, and Nothing is going to change that.🤫

I want a SS that can actually field adequately day in and day out.

Unfortunately Story can’t stay on the field, so what you want right, or wrong doesn’t seem like a big priority to the Red Sox, and that’s why you get the likes of Kike, and DHam.

Plan C is Rengifo. My recommendation for Plan C is DeJong…

As usual, your recommendations will be given all the attention they deserve.

Rengifo -5 DRS SS, -9 DRS 2B career

That's the plan?
