Even just as amazing he had 9 losses. That was how bad the Cards' offense was that year.

That’s how bad everybody’s offense was in the Year of the Pitcher. Yaz won the AL batting title that year with a .301 average. Cater was second at .290. Only 4 or 5 guys broke .300 in the NL.

Yup. The following season is when they lowered the mound.

Mr Gibson was the best RH pitcher I'd ever seen. And he was a nasty SOB on the mound. One time he threw the baseball at the man on deck because the guy was trying to move closer to the batter's box to get a read on Gibson's pitches.

Who could forget Mike. Of course, back then it wasn't that big of a deal for starters to pitch 9.

Mike Fornieles, one with Jerry Casales and Ike DeLock, although they were starters

A little before my time; was he a 1 inning guy or did he go multiple innings?

Radatz didn't need to go multiple innings. No one wanted to hit off him, so they just K'ed and went home. A little Ryne Duren-esque

Definitely a fierce competitor; as I recall, he played for the Harlem Globetrotters one off season. Supposedly he quit because he couldn’t stand the clowning.

Don't ever mistake Winckowski with anything other than a mid-inning reliever . Jansen screwed the Sox 7 way to Sunday tonight with his 9th inning. Blown save, wasted relievers and a loss to boot.

Don't forget Bill Monbouquette.

The original Black Mamba, well, maybe not. he was pretty caucasian, like most Red Sox of the Yawkey era.

Bob never did seem to be a clowning kind of guy. He, like Nolan, probably would be laughing at pitch counts and 5 men rotations.

I remember a great quote from Tim McCarver about Bob Gibson. He said "Bob Gibson was the luckiest pitcher in baseball. Whenever he pitched, the other team never scored any runs".

Dalbec's OPS is now about .050. As Youk said, He never is anything but down 0-2. Pitchers are throwing to the catcher only. No team will ever claim him, take him off the 40 and promote ANYONE or buy someone who can see the ball

The game was lost when Casas (who thinks he is faster than Maury Wills) tried to steal 3rd.

That was the run the Six needed to win the game.

Lol Yoshida. Casas on deck representing tying run. 2-0 count and swings on a pitch that would have made it 3-0 and then promptly whiffs on a pitch outside the zone. So much for his plate discipline

My humble opinion--- the game was lost the day Mrs Jansen decided it was ok to give Mr. Jansen a little sugar on a rainy Saturday night

They had the lead in the ninth inning…

I could be wrong, but I believe Jansen threw all cutters in the 9th except for one slider. That's why they hit him hard even when they made outs.

Tonight the Sox showed some signs of life, but the bullpen once again stunk, plus the defense and baserunning (Casas) weren't so great.

I hate extra innings

I actually like the new version with the guy on 2b. It usually prevents games that go on forever.

With the SOX BP, the opposition really doesn't need to start the extra inning with a guy on 2nd.

Know what does make games last longer? Kenley Jansen.

Cue those who remind us he’s a Hall of Fame closer and was really good in 2014…
