What might have been a surprisingly positive start to the season with a couple early wins already has the stench of the Bloom era wafting up to the roof of T-Mobile. The vigilantes are out in full force to get Cora, Breslow and probably Bailey fired over Joely Rodriguez . I have a different take: Wilyer Abreu, willyer go back to AAA and learn something useful on the baseball diamond like hitting and fielding

But in the spirit of Easter renewal, let's help the boys get a series split in Seattle. Whitlock has the enormous job of matching the stellar efforts of Bello, Pivetta and Crawford.

Oh yeah, Jansen is a dead weight this year, which I pointed out before Game #1. Put him on the PUP list and trade him to the Patriots.

It's just like Cora to bench one of our hottest hitter. I guess the 23 year old is in need of a "scheduled day off." We only have 3 batters over a .641 OPS, and Rafaela and Wong are two of them- both are on the bench, tonight.

Plus, Duran in CF hurts the D.

Rafaela on the bench.

Kind of odd. Hes been swinging the bat well

I can understand getting Wong a day off as catchers need it more, but Rafaela? Not making much sense.

Loading up the lefties vs. Miller, who throws 98 top of the zone. He used his fastball 66% of his time in the majors in '23 for a 27% K rate.

The only righties in the lineup are Story and O'Neill, with career K rates of 28.1% and 29.9%.

Got'em right where we want'em.

Plus, it hurts our D (Duran in CF,) and gives the ice-cold Abreu more playing time.

So Miller, along with 3 other Mariner pitchers are all Cy Young candidates so far, BUT the K rate on the BoSox is not looking good. Somebody besides Devers needs to hit a ball. Duran, Casas and Story are not doing much so far.

I’m not really trying to defend the Red Sox bad hitting so far but the Mariners rotation is very very good.

Whitlock with a very nice inning. Bit of a scare with the foul ball near homer, but striking out the side with 0 base runners is always good!

Hopefully, this will be the last season for the manager who rests hot hitters.

I am far from that position, but that aspect of his strategy bugs the hell out of me.

Resting hot hitters.

Planning days off that sometimes fall vs wrong-handed pitchers.

Maybe the SOX can trade Cora before the deadline.

C. Martin is a stud. Kenley s/b put out to stud. That's what you do with great, at one time, race horses who can't be relied upon to be ready to race. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

With the wealth of available data the concept of a “hot hitter” is outdated.

A TON of pitches for Whitlock that inning

The umpire problem rolls on. HP ump calls exactly the same pitch a ball, then a strike. Whitlock will be challenged to get 5 innings with the high 40 pitch count.

What does the data say about a 'cold hitter?'

That depends on many factors including how that batter has performed historically against a pitcher with a particular pitch mix.
