Bello vs Castillo

Cora is 0 for 4 on Opening Day as Manager of the Boston Red Sox. Last Sox Opening Day wins were Roenicke (2020) and Farrell (2017). Time for a win!

Tyler O’Neill has homered in each of the last 4 opening days, only 1 of 4 MLBers ever to have such a streak. No one has ever homered in 5 straight.

So that’s one more reason to watch…

Tyler O'Neill will play in the MLB venue closest to his hometown against the team that selected O'Neill in the third round of the 2013 draft out of Garibaldi Secondary School in Maple Ridge, British Columbia:

Friday evening the Red Sox are expected to send another British Columbian, Nick Pivetta, to the mound against the Seattle Mariners:

Who was the last player from British Columbia to be named to an All Star team as a Boston Red Sox? How many British Columbians played for the Red Sox last year?

I haven't a clue. Btw, has BC replaced DR as the hot bed for MLB players?

I wish opening day was a day game, but at least I'm on Central Time, so it won't be as bad as East Coasters.

soxprospects.com still projects Abreu as the RF'er.

MLB.com projects this opening day line-up:

1. L Duran LF

2. L Devers 3B

3. R Story SS

4. L Casas 1B

5. L Yoshida DH

6. R O'Neill RF

7. L E Valdez 2B

8. R Rafaela CF

9. R Wong C

This looks right, to me.

On paper that's a pretty impressive line-up. Hopefully, it will be that impressive on grass and dirt.

I like our O, a lot.

When Grissom returns it might get better, although E Valdez has a lot of promise, offensively.

I think McGuire might be better on O than Wong, but it's a close call.

Abreu on the bench offers some good depth, as well.

I like Devers 2nd and Story 3rd, as the modern philosophy down plays the 3 slot.

Vs a RH SP'er, having 4 lefties in the first 5 batters is nice. Had McGuire started, we'd have 6 lefties. If Abreu ever starts over O'Neill or rafaela, we might have 7 lefties in a line-up.

Our line-up vs LHPs might be a bit worrisome.

I'm sorta back, having missed all of spring training--except for checking scores and occasionally the stats--and of course all of the winter discussions. I'm a Heels fan and they're still playing--Alabama tonight in LA at 9:40.

Looks like a grim year. Sale's gone, no doubt because JH was ecstatic to dump him to the Braves, so the rotation is mostly relievers. If they screw up, Cora will be blamed.

A very fair assessment.

We're undefeated! And I expect it to stay that way (for another 9 hours at least).

We will not be in last place by the time we play our first game!

I believe the SOX will be tied for 1st after their game tonight. They're due to win an opening game.

If I'm wrong, I'll claim someone else posted that using my moniker. Gotta cover all the bases.

That will be one of the few things I won't blame Cora for.

Yeah, that Dodger SS just went deep. Hitting almost .700 over first 3 games. How come we can't get players like that?

Captains Courageous is on right now, 6 pm, on TCM. Terrific movie with Spencer Tracy, Freddie Bartholomew (who's excellent), Lionel Barrymore, and Melvyn Douglas. Based on Kipling novel. Tracy got the academy award for best actor. Freddie plays a spoiled rich kid who becomes a mensch by the end of the movie--thanks mostly to Tracy. Terrific photography of sailing ships off the shores of eastern USA.

TCM is terrific. No commercial interruptions and a great place to find noir films, which are my favorites. I believe I've watched DOUBLE INDEMNITY over a dozen times. It never gets old.

Speaking of the late, great Spencer Tracy, I thought he was also excellent in the film BAD DAY AT BLACK ROCK. Including a top-notch supporting cast of Robert Ryan(one of my all-time favorite actors), Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine. That's another one I've watched more than a few times.

The Rays are in last place all by themselves.

1-0 BAL

1-0 NYY

1-0 TOR

0-0 BOS

0-1 TBR

Today's game decides first or last place for the Sox. This is the most important game of the year, (so far.)

LOL

Hey there , SS. But too bad they play on grass or something that looks it instead of on paper. The difference can be meaningful to this young crew. Best wishes to the Sox and us for a surprisingly good outcome this year.

How's it going Vegas.

Well, the BRUINS hockey team exceeded expectations this season with a less than stellar team. They simply overachieved. Let's just hope this SOX team can do the same.

Well, to be honest, the BRUINS did have exceptional goaltending most of the season.
