Looks like he's going to the Dodgers for 10 years 700 Million. Holy f***

They might have to trade Mookie to afford him. Hope we held on to Verdugo and the receipt…

Ohtani’s AAV of $70mill (which it won’t be because some money will undoubtedly be deferred) is higher than the payrolls of EIGHT MAJOR LEAGUE TEAMSin 2023 (source: Sportrac).

Three of those teams did something last year Ohtani has never done - played in the postseason…

More than a billion dollars for two players: Ohtani and Mookie!

While money is differed, it essentially comes to about $100M a year.

That is about the same or more than about a third of MLB teams.

The Dodgers won 100 games last year without Ohtani, but it didn’t help come PS, and it might not next year either.

As always, yes. They could sign Yamo, Bellinger and Monty and still miss out.

A potential 1-2-3 of Mookie, Freeman and Ohtani is absolutely absurd. Plus they will have Will Smith, Muncy, Outman and will be getting back Gavin Lux back among others.

I'd still bet the field for 2024.

You would bet against a team whose second highest paid pitcher is Ryan Yarbrough!?!!

A potential 1-2-3 in the rotation of Buehler-Miller-Pepiot raises a few questions as well…

The details on this deal is wild

$68MM of Ohtani’s $70MM annual salary will be deferred, leaving him making just $2MM per year in the short term. The deferred money is to be paid out without interest from 2034 to 2043. This will reduce the CBT hit of the contract to around $46MM per year.

Stunning!

His retirement plan is the best in the history of any sport.

Word has it the Dodgers are scouting babies born in the last two years, figuring they will be MLB-ready and making minimum wage around when that deal finally expires…

So either the bigger remaining free agents are asking for too much, or teams aren't offering enough, I guess.

Imanaga has until 5 pm Jan 11th to sign, so we know one is less than a week away.

In HOF news, the only players currently tracking above 75% on ballots with 33% reported are:

Beltre - 98

Mauer - 82

Helton - 82

Wagner - 79

Sheffield -76 (last year)

Sheffield probabably doesn't get in and it'll be a really close call for Wagner and Helton too. I think Mauer gets in and Beltre is basically already in with how the votes have trended.
