ERA's for the last 3 Astro relievers (7th, 8th, and 9th innings) are 2.05, 2.14, and 2.77. Sox don't have anyone like that.

And now Jansen has an injury.

Max is right, Martin was not sharp and Reyes blocked the bad bounce and got 1 out . Also Devers is a travesty

Martin wasn't sharp, OK. When I posted that he's been 'unbelievable,' I was referring to the entire season. I believe he has an OPS+ of 250.

Once again, 2 OF'ers determined to catch the ball cannot communicate.

They were both running pretty hard and both got to the ball. I'm not sure anybody shouted "I got it! I got it!" Sometime it's better when they both go for it because I've seen plenty of plays where both players defer to the other guy and a catchable ball drops in.

Kenley done for awhile . Look at his stats while we wait on Pivetta to get loose.

I suppose Mauricio Llovera is ready to take over the closer role…

I call those plays “Kenny Loftons.” For obvious reasons

Nobody commented on Martin's season which has been excellent. Unfortunately, he probably is not available for tomorrow and I bet Jansen is out for a while.

But have no fear, Chaim will get a us a closer tomorrow.

The SOX have one. His name is Martin. The SOX BP is ranked 16th and the Astros' BP is ranked 7th.

Here's what you wrote and I reacted to: "Martin should already be in the dugout enjoying a beer, but the SOX defense likes to keep their pitchers on the mound as long as possible."

What you wrote strongly implies Martin was great tonight and the defense--which has been terrific, by the freaking way--just stunk things up.

That said, the best defensive play tonight by either team was by Whitlock.

No way can we allow Old Red and Moonslav to be the only sworn debaters on this site. Like a brawl pick your opponent and throw him to the ground like Pedro and the Gerbil

Reading comprehension would eliminate having to explain previous posts. Not referring to you.

Not the same at all. I like SPLENDIDSPLINTER and have said so numerous times. Plus he is our best game thread starter this season.

I just couldn't let him get away with blaming Reyes and the defense.

I repeat SOX defense likes to keep pitchers on the mound as long as possible. This is in regards to the entire season, not just tonight's game. You do realize the SOX have played 126 games prior to this one.

I'll give Reyes a pass, mainly because I like his attitude on the field and, like I posted earlier, I'd like to see him start for the remainder of the season, but I won't give the SOX defense a pass for their miserable number of errors this season.

Then my attack stands because in no way, shape, or form can you claim that the Sox defense LIKES to keep pitchers on the mound as long as possible. In fact, they hate it because they know they screwed up.

Of course, right now the Sox offense is keeping Graveman on the mound (or under it). I hope you agree that's a good thing.

Also this about the defense. I get mad at them too. But the simple fact is that for decades the Sox have recruited bats far, far more than they have gloves.

In fact, I'll just bet you're a Casas fan and his DWAR stinks (-1.0). But he sure can hit, and that's really all we care about. Same goes for Duran, whose DWAR is -0.4. But who cares as long as his OPS is over .800 and he can run like the dickens when he's on base? However, he also overran a pop fly to left field by about 5 yards earlier this season.

There is probably a fair chance that I would have let Pivetta pitch one more, or at least start it. Winckowski is not quite ready for prime time
