I think you also said that before the road trip. I was more optimistic and would point out that 2 of the 3 losses were each by 1 run and lost in the 9th and 11th innings. The latter was egregious because the Sox didn't score in the 10th or 11th innings despite starting each with a man on 2b.

Today it's righty Gilbert who has 11 quality starts out of 21 total and a WHIP of 1.06. His OPS against vs. lefties is .677 and righties .638, and Seattle won all 5 of his starts in July. Four of them were quality starts including a 9IP shutout July 4 vs the Giants.

Sox are going with a "balanced" lineup (without Turner, who's hurt):

Duran LF

Dugo RF

Yoshida DH

Devers 3B

Duvall RF

Casas 1B

Arroyo 2B

Wong C

Chang SS

The Angels not trading Ohtani at the TDL will probably end up the worst decision their GM could have made. Their new pitching acquisition Giolito was rocked for 9 runs, all earned, in 4 innings today. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

If they can re-sign him, it's not the end of the world. If they lose him AND miss the playoffs, it's not great...

Also, it's probably that damned CERA's fault again... :(

Ohtani wants to play for a team that will be a WS contender for a long time. He knows the Angels may have the worst farm system in MLB, so he doesn't see the Angels as being that team. My guess is, when all is said and done, Ohtani will end up a Dodger.

Farm system rankings can be fickle. Yanks went from 8th two years ago to 25th this year. Angels haven't been good for a long time, but money talks.

Plus Ohtani will probably give the Dodgers a west coast discount.

Very good 5 by Crawford. Surprised he didn't start the 6th. Oh, well. Paxton is still the SOX best starter, but I've moved Crawford past Bello for 2nd best. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

Sometimes farm systems drop for a good reason - like when last year’s top prospects become this year’s starting players…
