And it was hailed as a good lock-em-up-early move by the Rays.

Risk comes in many forms.

They might be able to void the contract in a case like this though, I would guess.

I'm pretty sure if he's convicted, that contract will be null and void as he would have breached a clause in the contract. So the Ray's would get off the hook

Which clause?

Which clause?

Most player contracts and endorsement contracts contain a “morals clause,” which gives the athlete's team, league or company paying the athlete to endorse its products the right to terminate a contract or otherwise punish a player who engages in criminal or unseemly behavior.

Which clause?

MLB has the power under the Uniform Player’s Clause Section 7a to void any contract if a player commits certain crimes. I believe this was exercised for former Pirates’ closer Flipe Vazquez.

The league can also suspend him without pay even without a guilty verdict.

In either case, I believe Franco does have a right to appeal…

Endorsement deals are different and can often be voided at the discretion of the negotiating party. I’m sure we have a lawyer on this forum better suited to explain it than me…

Aaron Hernandez for the Patriots lost his contract. Same idea here except its not murder

I get where you’re going, but Hernandez was in the NFL, where contracts can be terminated simply because someone else plays your position better…

Worst case scenario for Rays, they can just keep him on the restricted list, like Felipe Vázquez is on. If he actually is a pedophile, he won’t ever see the money and he’ll never touch an MLB field again.

As Red Sox fans we can't complain too much about this as Fenway has a metal garage door in center field and also chain link fence for the bleacher bar

It's something I'll never understand. They're paying players tens or hundreds of millions, but they don't do anything about these hazards built into playing fields that would seem relatively easy to fix.

A second accuser has been confirmed, who had filed a complaint against him, and they were investigating that claim even before this one came up.

It's ovah fo him. A creep, and a fool.

It's all over the news here. How it's being told here is that she told him she was of age, but had not acquired her Birth Certificate and other documents, because of problems with her mother's documentation. She brought him back to her house, where her mother confirmed she was of age, and just had some documentation issues. He proceeded to start having sex with her, and they proceeded to extort him by asking for 200K and a Mercedes. The mom's a scumbag and he's a f***ing idiot.
Holy s***!

If allegations are true then yes he's a sicko.

I'm just pointing out some people will take advantage of these situations.

I've also heard rumors that the 14 year year old in question had a 2 year old baby, drives and drinks vodka and then she purged her FB after this.

How many 14 year old have you heard of that has a 2 year old baby?

Are you trying to make excuses for Wander? Gross.

Not making any excuses. I just like to know the facts before judging someone. I said if allegations are true then yes he's a sicko.

Don't f***ing put words in my mouth.

What happens if all these allegations becomes incorrect and she is actually of age?

I don’t think it’s even that crazy in America. I worked with a 17 year old who has two kids and one was 4. Not to mention there was an extreme popular TV reality show called “teen mom” always airing on MTV

The only interesting part is the mother saying that daughter WAS over 18. The situation is questionable enough (missing dox) that the dude should have just found someone clearly over 18. Wander could find almost anyone he wanted to sleep with.

Including his wife aka the mother of his two children?

Not sure why that part of his life is being so glossed over here…

Because we're used to pro athletes and people in general committing adultery. It's a story when you cross over from the merely immoral to the criminal.

Not that I disagree with your point.

It’s not too difficult to argue about how accustomed we are to professional athletes committing crimes, either. After all, the joke is NFL stands for National Felons League, not National Fornication League…

Fornication, Firearms, Fraudsters...lots of F words to have fun with.

The Los Angeles Angels are calling up first baseman Nolan Schanuel, who they took with the 11th overall pick in the draft less than six weeks ago and was in Double-A, sources tell ESPN. The 21-year-old from Florida Atlantic is hitting .370/.510/.493 in 21 minor league games.

Nolan Schanuel was seen as perhaps the most big league-ready hitter in this draft, with incredible production (.447/.615/.868 with 71 walks and 14 strikeouts in 289 PA) at FAU. But this fast a promotion exceeds the loftiest expectations. Angels doing everything they can to win.

Nolan Schanuel's promotion by the Angels is the fastest for a player in decades, according to @ESPNStatsInfo. The last US-born player to debut within 40 days of being drafted: Texas pitcher Jerry Don Gleaton in 1979. The last position player: Toronto catcher Brian Milner in 1978.

Makes the 90 days the Nats made Ryan Zimmerman wait look like an eternity…
