Pham not paying attention. Men on 2nd/3rd , one out and he hits a long sac fly to score a run , tying the game. Not the Sox way in '22.

Refsnyder in a similar situation also doesn't pay attention to the "Way" and scores Bogaerts with a flyball. But the astounding play is that JDM took third on the flyball, then on Arroyo's fly, JDM scores with a well timed dash to the plate.

Now can the team keep the 4-2 lead and win the series ?

Sox are swinging the bats timely and well today. Good way to either end a week or start a new one . Pivetta needs to work a bit better to get 5 innings and a his win , but eventually this will be another test of the BP.

I would certainly run Franklin German back in today to see if he can settle down a bit and get himself a positive result.

It wouldn't be a Nick Pivetta start without a HR being given up. Sal Perez continues his quick bat launches. For a big boy catcher, he can move the lumber

One thing about Pivetta this year , as opposed to Sale, Wacha, Eovaldi, is that he has made 30 starts and over 165 innings. His 9-11 record on a team that isn't going to win 80 games is acceptable for a #4 or #5 starter. He will require that you have a decent BP behind him.

If intensity was the main factor in producing a great pitcher, then Pivetta would win the Cy Young every year. I like the fact that Nick is there when it's his turn to pitch and that he always gives 100%.

Who knows? Maybe his best years are ahead of him. Stay tuned.

The team is 13-16 in his starts, this year, and...

16-14 in 2021

2-0 in 2020

31-30 overall

Team record from 2020-2022: 186-181

This is post #12...it says everything we need to know about what the fans think of Red Sox these days.....

7-3 lead and Ort walks two guys......get rid of pitchers that can't throw strikes.

Ok...2 K's. Much better...

It says mediocre to me.

Nice to see Raffy Devers pick up some 2 out rbi's to cushion the pen. Ort has some troubles but K's his way out of same.

I'm guessing the pitching coach came to the mound and told Ort to just throw fastballs. Good advise because he really doesn't have an effective 2nd pitch.

Which begs the question why this particular pitcher, who possesses a 98-99 mph fastball, hasn't been taught to throw an effective off speed pitch?

That the SOX are 3rd in the AL in runs scored makes me believe they have to be leading the league in most games scoring 10 or more runs.

It would be interesting to see run average, capped at +4 differential each game.

So assuming this game stays at 11-4, Sox would get credit for 8 runs.

Won/Lost can be a misleading statistic when evaluating a pitcher's performance, but based on Nick's other pitching stats it seems

appropriate that his MLB career W/L is 39-49.

It should change to 40-49 after this game.

Pivetta's career WHIP is 1.38. His WHIP so far this season is 1.34. That's not very good so says Capt Obvious.

My suggestion is to pitch more innings with no hits nor walks. His WHIP would come down. Pivetta has never thrown a shutout in his career

Even with the presumption of no bottom 9th inning, this game is a poster child for accelerating the time of games next year.
