We took 2 guys that many services had going much lower… like by a round or more lower. I hope Bloom knows more than the services

Can't trust these industry boards, after the 10-15th pick they start to diverge wildly from and with every other team's boards out there.

Nick Yorke was ranked 139/96/236 by MLB BA PG, and I think after that pick I have to cede any right to play armchair gm to Bloom's picks. FWIW Romero was ranked 65/54/48 by those same outlets. They might get him a little under slot too here and give that money to their next two picks. This draft screams 2020....except with more than 5 rounds.

Here are some other thoughts, some scouts are have said they've never seen a better hit tool on a prospect, his biggest hit is lack of power, can field his position well at SS, and is reportedly VERY good friends with Sox top prospect Marcelo Mayer.

Wonder what Fabian gets, drafted much lower, but the O's have a boatload of pool money to throw at him. His gamble might pay off.

Nick Yorke hasn’t really lived up to his 97 game cameo last year. Still early, but I wouldn’t crow about his under the radar pick yet.

I had a wee bit of insomnia last night and decided to read up on the guys brought in. The sites, unsurprisingly, vary widely on Romero’s hit tool. They don’t vary, it seems on the defense or his lack of power. I read MLB who likes his hit tool. I read Law who doesn’t. Ultimately, he’s a high floor player. His floor is a big league utility player. His ceiling is a middle of the pack starting shortstop. Now guys like this have their place for sure, but not in the first round. First round players should all have all star projections if they hit their ceilings, IMO. This reminds me a lot of the Yanks selection of Citi Culver years ago or Erik Holder. Guys with high end D and a wish and a prayer O

Your second pick has more of the boom or bust to him. Cutter Coffey is a bat first MIF who’s likely destined for 3b. Plus arm, average to minus range for a MIF, fringy speed. Solid hit tool, projectable power. It’s rather funny that he’s ranked in the 100 range but it seems he’s the better selection than Romero, IMO.

Third pick was the highest rated selection by the Sox. Roman Anthony. 6’3” lefty crusher with now power that will only improve. Won’t win you any GG’s but should stick in a COF spot. Only question is whether he’ll make enough contact. If your picks went Anthony, Coffey, Romero I don’t think anyone would have objected all that much

I'm not worried about Yorke, he's going to be a stud (or not, that's prospects for you). As a 19 year old in high A battling injuries, I'm unfazed by mediocre stats in under 200 at-bats.

Mookie Betts was unranked, got a $750K signing bonus where his slot commanded a $139K bonus. Again, I think after the first 15-25 picks, you can just throw those national rankings out the window.

It’s hard to know what to expect from any of these draftees.

Fingers crossed.

Sox believe Mikey Romero will develop power. Per Speier: plus hit tool and they believe he can be an above-avg to plus middle infielder with average power. Part of the reason for their selection of him above where mocks had him was late-emerging power in pre-draft workouts

Sounds like nobody knows what to expect on him.

With HS guys, there always is a wide variance between what they are and what they can become.

Yes, and more so with lower pucks.

Love your Noah Dean pick. High 90s closer with a wipeout slider as a lefty. Just gotta stay healthy. He’s gonna be the first in the bigs IMO

Right there with Durbin Feltman.

Predicting the future is not easy work. Ask any weatherman…

Easier gig than drafting for MLB.

"Ahhh, but Keith Law's list of 500 guys had this player 100 spots lower! Bad pick!"
