The Red Sox just got swept by the Rays. Ok bad news we get it.

What's disturbing is the numbers when you take a deeper look overall.

"How many times have the Red Sox been swept by the Rays?

The Red Sox are now 2-8 against the Rays this season, and are 0-9-1 in series against AL East teams. It was the third time they'd been swept by the Rays in a four-game series, once in 2020 and the first time in 2010. Their six straight losses to the Rays ties a series record."

What is terrifying to me is the fact that the Red Sox have not won a SINGLE series against AL East teams this year. Which makes us the worst team in the division despite our overall record. There is no chance to win the AL East when you can't win a SINGLE series against your rivals.

We're over .500. So what. We can't beat a SINGLE division rival when it maatters.

How do we fix this? Can the 'genius' Chaim Bloom undo his mistakes and make the Red Sox into contenders this year? What has to change?

How can we fix this?

Start by winning this series vs the Yanks.

One series at a time, guys!

The "chance to win the AL East" left months ago, we were never going to catch the Yankees. What we have is a good not great Red Sox team playing a brutal part of the schedule.

Calm down, they'll be in the playoff race all year and IMO will be in the post season. That roster will look different than the one we have seen in July, we can all count on that.

So you’re saying the 10-19 start was reality and the 38-24 record since then is the outlier?

Who is saying that?

The fact that the Sox have not won a single series against the AL East this season is really very fluky considering how well they've played against the other teams. I know the AL East is a tougher division, so you wouldn't expect the record against them to be as good, but you'd expects at least a couple of series wins.

Also consider the number of injuries the Sox have been dealing with. The ASB will provide a much needed break. They should come back mostly healthy and ready to go.

I'm optimistic as ever. Seeing some of our younger players have been fun, good or bad. I like to know the bad news sooner rather than later so I'd like to seem them come up when opportunity presents itself.

Only one I'm not sold on is Seabold. Others have major league stuff.

This is no way the 2018 team. You have to temper expectations. The goal has always been to get into the playoffs for this team. We're right there.

But the Yankees don't scare me over a seven game series. Two of Eovaldi, Sale and Pivetta have to be effective though.

Thank you for this post Nick. I am with you. :)

Not only do I like our chances for this season, but the long term outlook is looking better and better.
