I love that expression "you have to make sure" when applying to what has to be an semi-instantaneous decision made on the basepaths.

Youk is right and you know it. It was another bad decision in a series of bad decisions.

And if you count the near total lack of plate discipline this team is showing then it’s easy to see why they haven’t won a series against the ALE yet.

If a batter doesn't run at full speed on a grounder or if an outfielder doesn't hustle going after a base hit, then I'm all for benching him. I haven't see any of the SOX OF's not hustling on defense, but I have seen quite a number of SOX batters not running full out to 1st base. Brain dead plays happen, but there's no excuse for not hustling. Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

The TEAM is doing it a lot. You have to make an example of someone to get the team’s attention. Best done with an important player.

Verdugo last night was completely different. He was picked off when there was no one out and he was on 3d base. To me that's just an indicator that Verdugo doesn't focus when he is on the field. Dever was extremely focused and knew that: a) he had a good chance of getting to 3d base; B) when he did, JDM would have a much easier job driving him home with just 1 out.

Well apparently he didn’t have such a good chance at making it to 3B, did he.

Bad judgement. Youk is right.

Quality start by Winck tonight.

Yup

This loss will not be his fault. Their SP is tough, which makes base running mistakes lethal.

Anybody ready to make an example of a player yet? Bogaerts with the most recent example of brain dead baseball.

Unwatchable

Outta here

His defense has been always average at very best.

I turned off the game. I don’t like watching Little League baseball.

It’s not even just defense. It’s NOT THINKING. Not having your head in the game. And that’s on Cora for not getting control of his team.

Of all the contending teams for the WC in the AL do any of them have more players who shouldn't be in the major leagues than the SOX?

Serious question.

Yeah! This team is literally lost.

This team is starting to provoque in me the worst: indifference. I guess it is happening to several among here. 4 page thread?

In a loss. We often see 4 page threads in a win, but losses usually are 10+ pages.

Mediocrity doesn't garner much interest.

You can win or lose I get that but losing like this is unbearable.

This team is soulless. Zero fundamentals. Their heads are somewhere else.

And that’s really the problem. I don’t like losing to the Yankees but this year I realize they have a great team and we don’t. There’s no shame in getting beaten by a better team-as long as the effort is there and the player’s heads are in the game.

But getting beaten like a drum by the low budget Rays over and over again because, primarily, we made stupid mistakes that even little leaguers don’t make is downright embarrassing. Henry needs to apologize to the fans and Cora needs to get the team’s attention, possibly by benching one of the brain dead players like Verdugo, Devers, or Bogaerts. Lacking that we likely won’t be playing baseball in October.

IMHO while I like Cora, I think he is the main responsible along with his coaches. I think the manager-player line has been trespassed. He obviously has to defend his players but wonder whether he raises his tone in the locker room after a series like this. It seems to me, he doesn't.
