Betts was drafted under Epstein.

Epstein also signed Bogaerts as IFA.

Cherington signed Devers as IFA…

Now if Bloom gets someone on a list like this I’ll say he did a good job, and the farm produced a good crop.

I think Bloom is just a puppet anyway. I think he was told to hire Cora back, and to trade Mookie, which he pretty much botched in his returns. Now I’ll give you he doesn’t have a very big allowance from JH, but Bloom has had 3 years to work on all these FA to be, and all he has done is to lowball Bogey, and Raffy, and if a fire sale has to happen, and does happen it has to start with Bloom. No prospects they get back will make up for a Bogey, Raffy, or JD just like Dugy does not replace Mookie.

If Bloom is only a puppet, why do you think he’s a bad fit for Boston?

There isn’t a GM/President of Ops out there who doesn’t listen to his owner…

He’s already stolen Whitlock from the Yankees…

Maybe Yorke? Maybe Mayer? Maybe Bleis?

We haven't had any DD prospects rip through yet. We'll see if it's Casas or Bello.

Because I don’t believe nerds, and clones (not my words) running the Red Sox are a good thing.

As we were just saying, the Bloom nerd took Whitlock from the Yankees.

Heck, Theo Epstein is a nerd, and many think he's the GOAT.

I do too, but his contract gets bigger everyday.

It does. Until he pulls a hammy or strains an oblique as he's been known to do.

You keep using them though?

Theo had a hard time with SS.

Theo had a hard time with SS.

An overblown criticism.

He signed one SS (Renteria) who didn’t work out and floated through a few names while his prospects developed. But he also brought in two extremely talented shortstops that are both still playing MLB, which is pretty impressive for a guy whose been gone for 10 years…

How about Lugo?

He also drafted Baez when he was with the Cubs.

I believe Jim Hendry actually did that, in a rare Jim Hendry move that worked…

I remember years ago on the old CBS message boards there was a big debate, and poll if Theo was Boy Wonder, or Boy Blunder.

I can add him to the list.

But Cabrera, Gonzalez, and Scutaro we’re all good. And he also signed Bogaerts and Jose Iglesias. The worst thing you can say is he clearly learned from his mistakes, and he turned Renteria into Coco Crisp and even Lugo was only around for 2+ years, one of which was a championship team and the second got the Sox to the ALCS…

Hey I thought Theo did a good job, and also did a good job with the Cubs.

He had his detractors, but most of them focused on individual moves and ignored the big picture. The guy built a championship team and won multiple rings while simultaneously rebuilding the farm system. Yet somehow some fans seem to think “but he kept getting new shortstops” is a criticism that actually offsets those other accomplishments.

To me, I wonder if these same people read the Bible, and when they get the the miracle of the loaves and fishes, their first reaction is “What?! No tartar sauce!?? Some savior!!”

I can’t see Bloom having Thanksgiving dinner with someone like Theo did with Schilling to get him to come to Boston.

Any proof of that?

The proof is what they spent.

Do people really think Bloom was given a big spending budget and chose not to do so? Where is your evidence on that?

I agree we fans don’t know what else we could have gotten for Betts, but the point being we did not get back equal value, and what are the chances we get back any kind of equal value for Bogey, JD, Evol, and Raffy if it comes to that. That’s a lot of value if not replaced close to equal then you end up worse off than you were before. I understand that getting something back is better than just letting them walk out the door, but to me it all shouldn’t have all come to this.

What is equal value? Is 5 years of Verdugo not equal to 60 games of Betts?
