This team kinda stinks. The rotation has been average, but everything else has been putrid. I think the offense should come back around in the next few weeks, but this bullpen is just ugly. Without a defined bullpen role for Houck/Whitlock, the pen is just a pile of nonsense.

If things don't turn around quick for Verdugo/Dalbec/Kiké and young guys stay in WOO, this team is a distant 4th and will be sellers in July. Signing Story seems to have been a mistake. Bye Xander. Bye Eovaldi. Bye JD. Bye Raffy.

Does this mean the "realistic" II thread is done?

You can go back to Realistic Part I if you want?

Afraid I agree. And I have no doubt the FO will adopt the strategy: when your team sucks, identify the best players and get rid of them.

Realistically, I think there's a very good chance that it could get really ugly this year (like 2012 ugly). However, with the prospect pipeline the Sox currently have (and ignoring 2020), I think this will be the low point of Bloom's tenure here.

At least there's one more year to work something out with Raffy. And the team will be flush with cash going into next offseason.

Why not just start the Realistic View at 2023 Part I?

Why, is there a designated time that each phase of the 'realistic' thread should be started?

But they could get a better haul if they deal him with an extra year of team control.

What does that have to do with anything.

We try not to start threads about the following season until the Sox are officially out of it.

Yes, but that's not an approach this franchise has taken.

That sounds reasonable.

But why is he upset that part 3 was started?

He's probably just grumpy from angrily posting at Old Red all night, IDK.

No. Why did I act like there was?

I'm far from upset.

Why assume I'm upset just for saying start Part 1 of 2023?

You guys read too much into many posts.

Sometimes it hard to hear "tone" on the internet......

" Realistically " the Sox have dug quite a hole for themselves. The first goal now should be to get back to .500. But can they do that ? The offense certainly will improve. They cannot possibly be as bad as they have looked. But when they do take a lead late into the game , they have to close it out. They cannot keep blowing those kind of games.

Well. you are a Yankee fan, so I was saying it like expected you to write about 2023, as a way of saying our 2022 was over, like expect you hope it is.

It wasn't meant to be any sort of demand that you not start the next part.

It doesn't matter if the realistic thread has one part or ten parts. What is funny is that many of the posts are not the least bit " realistic." Maybe it should just be re-named as " The regular season " thread. It would at least be more accurate.

I used to have thread by the same name on the other site as a way to try and keep the wild posts on other threads.

It did NOT work there, either.

At what point do the six hitters that are under performing start to hit and gravitate toward their career norms?

When did player "value" become "what I could get for him in trade?" To me, the "value" of a player is how well they perform and how much fans like watching them play, not the hypothetical haul of prospects one could get by getting rid of them.

That is the sixty - four dollar question. I don't know the answer , but it better be soon.

Ha, I was going to say the 64 million dollar question.
