Funny that Chapman is now like our 8th best reliever. But can't put this loss on him, the offense was dreadful. Gallo is just an OF version of Gary Sanchez with worse offense and better defense. Donsldson seems to start every count 0-2 and outside of his game 1 walkoff has been awful. IKF/Higgy are replacement level. Hicks is anti-clutch and will probably be injured by next week. Rizzo had a nice series against Boston but he's mediocre. Gleyber is meh until he proves otherwise. Stanton/Judge/DJ are good, but it seems when they're not hitting (or playing) then the offense doesn't exist. Oh well, hopefully the bats show up tomorrow.

Chapman is still a good reliever. He just gets the yips and when he does, you need to pull him out of situations. He is also a FA after the season, so it isn't like we are married to him beyond 22

Which by the way, why the f*** would you bring him into a bases loaded walkoff situation needing to get two outs after the yips he showed vs Toronto? Might as well have left Schmidt in there

Boone didn't think of that. Showalter probably would have.

Yanks should have scored 10 tonight. Still struggling with RISP, but nice to see the comeback. This pen is f***ing nasty. Sears adds to the list of hard throwing lefty pitchers. It’s gonna be hard for the Yanks to whittle this thing down to 26 by May. Sears, legitimately, is a candidate to be a starter. He’s got three dominant pitches and averages nearly 96 on the gun.

Boone giveth, and Boone taketh away.

Even Mo had his 3 weeks per season where he was hittable. Not saying Chapman is the best RP, but he'll have good numbers. I agree in some regards, I am more comfortable with 3 or 4 other relievers out there than with him.

Kings curveball is insane. He's the only RP in the past 10 years whos had success in the pen, that Id like to see start. No room for him. I think this is the best pitching staff we've had in the past 10 to 15 years. I'm excited to see the team pitch more than hit. Tervino needs to be starting more over Higgy. Again, I don't think Higgy is as bad as hes been but hes not a starter. Nor is Trevino but he's better than Higgy. The offense will wake up sooner or later and the pitching will regress a little. It's only a matter of time

It's very early and this list could change quickly, but my order of bullpen confidence is as follows (0 = no confidence, 10 = supreme confidence):

Loaisaga (9)

Holmes (8)

King (8)

Green (7)

Luetge (7)

Peralta (6)

Chapman (5)

Castro (5)

Schmidt (5)

Marinaccio (3)

Sears (3)

If we continue to have this many solid bullpen options I can see the Yanks trying to trade Green at some point this season.

Boone lets Loaisaga face Odor when he's got the lefty Luetge, who is very tough on lefties, all ready to go.

He's terrible.

The Boone & Cashman show has really helped the Sox for several years, now.

Please don't fire them!

They're a golden duo. Love them.

Once he walked bases loaded and had Schmidt up, you gotta pull him. Cole is an investment. It’s April. The weather is bitterly cold and the guy cannot get the feel for his pitches. Protect the player

We “knocked out” the starter after 1 inning. The second pitcher they had got hurt. Yanks were given 8 free passes and a 2 run error. And they still only scored 4 runs. There’s a fundamental flaw to this offense. When conditions do not favor the longball, the offense goes silent. They can’t manufacture. They’re allergic to contact. Too many black holes in the lineup. Thank god for amazing pitching.

Cashman Forever!

I went back home to CT this weekend for the Easter holiday, and one morning I happened to stumble across in article in the Hartford Courant talking about how Cole has given the Yankees absolutely no reason to believe that he is worth the contract he signed. The more I think about it, the more I agree.

It was a weird outing for Cole. He stuck out 3 batters in the 1st inning, then had like a 40 minute wait before pitching the 2nd inning. Not that it's an excuse, an ace should be able to overcome adverse situations. But even in the 2nd he managed to get to 2 strikes on everyone he walked, but just couldn't put anyone away. My level of worry about Cole right now is probably a 4 out of 10, if this continues then obviously I'll be more alarmed. But over decades of watching baseball I've learned not to put a lot of stock in April numbers.

Cashman Forever!

I go on the NYY Fans site quite a bit to read what they're saying about Cashman. I can't help myself. They crucify him on a daily basis and some of the comments are hilarious. It's great stuff.

Today, Aaron Boone was very good. I know, I know, I think he had one of those Will Ferrell Old School out of body experiences. When was the last time a Yankee team had multiple bunts in the same game? He moved runners. He manufactured runs. When you’re not hitting, you gotta manufacture and for one game, Boone did just that

They probably messed up the hit away sign.

Lol, exactly. We’ve hit one homer in 2 games in Detroit. It’s been cold, the wind has been blowing in and Detroit is a tough park for homers on a good day. You cannot continue with the same approach. He got lucky game 1 with the error. Game two was smarter. Will probably need more of the same today.

Also, Cole needs to take lessons from Sevy last night. Sevy had his fastball, but he didn’t have bite on his breaking ball which meant he didn’t have a put away pitch. He still challenged hitters and got outs.
