Even counting inflation?

They aren’t outspending everyone else anymore.

But like the Sox, they’re still spending nearly $200mill annually, if not more. If the best argument is “but what about inflation?”, is that really all you have? I think fans of teams like Boston and the Yankees and the Dodgers sometimes moss the big picture in how h these teams spend and just demand that it be more and more…

The inflation and comparative spending points are valid.

I've never been one to demand more and more spending, but it is nice, when it works.

Sox, Yanks and Jays locked in a battle over Japanese star Seiya Suzuki.

Right now they are "frozen" in a battle for him...

Him and Rondon were my top targets this year. I'd love to add him to the team and make Gallo a CF.

Gallo to CF is the only logical choice if we are to keep the guy. His swing and miss tendencies get magnified in the AL East facing the type of pitching seen in this division. If he can even play average CF defense, he will be a very positive WAR player and open up some avenues for us. If he is our starting LFer on opening day, then we done f***ed up

The bigger question to me o is why are the Yankees pursuing OF at all.

Now that they have (questionably) tendered Sanchez, they have Gallo, Judge, Stanton and Sanchez and only 4 positions to play them in.

Unless they think Suzuki - who has considerable infielder experience - can handle shortstop, he’s not filling their primary need. And the overwhelming bulk of his infield experience is not at shortstop, with only 67 games there out of over 1,000 games in his career to date.

I think the Yankee interest in Suzuki is probably nothing more than due diligence, and they are far more likely to pursue Correa or Story to round out their lineup…

Sanchez is gonna catch, be dealt or not play. He doesn’t hit well enough to DH.

Stanton is going to be the DH most games.

We have an open OF position, especially if Gallo moves to CF. Hicks can back up the other OFers, but Suzuki would be a good add to lengthen the lineup.

We need an OFer, a SS, and a C at the very least offensively

Yankees sign Inciarte to a minor league deal.

He could be a big help. I know he's been crap for a couple years, but he might still have a good season in him.

I think we can scratch “be dealt” off that list, considering per you Sanchez don’t hit well enough to be a DH, per me, and his defense is such that he couldn’t catch a cold if he was naked in Norway. Seems like not much for what will likely be an $8mill investment. I don’t see other teams lining up…

Sanchez has dirt on Boone.

Boone has dirt on Cash.

Cash has dirt on Hal.

It all makes sense why these guys are still around LOL

Sanchez was more valuable last season than Vaz and Plawecki combined. He'd be an upgrade for us.

Wow, and you call me a Vaz hater.

Except for Boone. Unless Cashman is running some sort of baby-eating cabal, no dirt is THAT juicy…

Yanks are still waiting for the Sanchez of 2017 to return. That guy used to hit outside pitches over the RF wall, not roll them over to the SS. I can only imagine that the poor C market made them make this decision, although it's not even really a decision. They can still cut him in ST and only be on the hook for 10% of the contract

Umm, no. Unless all you're concerned with is homeruns.

@MLB

The Yankees have hired Rachel Balkovec as the manager of the @TampaTarpons, their Low-A affiliate. She'll become the first female manager in affiliated professional baseball history.

Yanks sign Roderick Arias using essentially their entire budget. Kid is the top rated prospect. Switch hitter, fast, quick hands, power potential, great bat. Comp is Wander Franco. Seriously hope he comes close to that!

Looking forward to his cards exceeding Jasson Dominguez level.

We shall see. Dominguez held his own pretty well in long season as an 18 yr old. He should be in High A as a 19 yr old and go from there.

Arias will likely spend 2022 in the DSL or maybe in the GCL and go from there.

Yanks could target Andrelton Simmons. Just what the injury prone, light hitting Yankees need is an injury prone light hitting shortstop.

He was pretty healthy for 6 years (2013-2018), but yes, he has missed significant time the last 3 years:

264 games played

384 games available

69% of games played with a .626 combined OPS

From 2017-2018, he played in 304 out of 324 games and had a .753 OPS, won 2 GGs and finished top 15 in MVP voting, each year.
