It is an oxymoron, a marvelous figure of speech intended to get your attention by cramming together words in opposition to each other. Sports psychologists preach calm intensity.

I think Manny at the plate was an excellent example of calm intensity.

On defense, the calmness was still there at times, but the intensity not so much.

The real benefit of getting the lead on the first pitch is that if your pitcher(s) throw a shutout, the game is already won, similar to last night. Now that this W is secured we can relax and just enjoy the game

Mullins K's but he has a better BA (.297) and OPS(.897) than any Red Sox regular other than Shwarbs .924 OPS. Wonder if he will be looking for a new home in a couple years.

I think Manny's calmness at the plate had to do more with confidence than intensity.

How about 15 Ks in 6 IP?

Just think, if Pivetta does get the CG SHO, then our next 24 hitters could all K and we still win

People can say what they want about Manny but he was one of baseball's greatest all time hitters and he changed the Red Sox for the better when he signed. Great signing by Dan D.

He worked at hitting more than many know.

He was very focused- perhaps a better word than intensity, and rarely got distracted by bad ump calls, striking out, or anything else.

He rarely showed frustration. I’m not sure if he ever was.

Manny was the best right handed hitter I ever saw. He will always be one of my faves.

Doesn’t he hold the record for most post season home runs? Dude was a ridiculous hitter.

So was Ortiz with a lot of help from Pedro.

Dan D. deserves a lot of credit for 2004 Championship for getting Pedro for 2 guys who never amounted to much and signing Manny.
