With 2 outs, a runner on 3rd and 1st and 2nd empty and the score tied, the O's manager decides to pitch to the Yankems' best hitter. Luckily. Judge did ground out. It's decisions like that which help explain one of the reasons the O's suck so bad.

Not at all. Just an observation. Oakland's pen has been garbage lately so you would think Melvin would stay away from it with his starter cruising in the game.

Despite the lack of reinforcements from the FO that immediately induced a tailspin dropping them from 1st place to being out of contention for the Division or and now the decimation of the roster from COVID, this crew has not given up and they are still fighting. It’s nice to see.

So much of the modern game is determined by the effectiveness of bullpens. Good or fresh arms = death to rallies; bad or tired arms = feeding time.

 

Last century, when complete games for starting pitchers were not only expected but routine, batters had the benefit of facing the same stale guy four times through the order (nowadays, many pitchers aren't allowed to go through lineups three times). Maybe that explains the real reason so many legends from yesteryear made more contact and struckout so much less.

Whitlock may go down as Bloom's best acquisition, to date, but Renfroe was a great one.
