Outside of the first series we are 2-8 against the Rays and they have outscored us 63 to 47...... Most of these games aren't even close. Here is some of the blow outs

8-2

7-3

8-4

8-1

6-1

Hell even the game where we should have crushed them when we put up 20, they still put up 8 on us lmao.

Sorry if anyone takes this as a negative post, but if you truly think we can compete with this team come playoffs...... Give your a head a shake..... Outside of that first series to start the season, the Sox have shown ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to anyone to prove they belong with Tampa or Houston. That is not a negative post, that is a simple fact.

Hey, I can outdo your negativity easily.

I don't think we're looking very good to even make it to the Wild Card game.

Call it whatever you want. I call it jumping ship.

It is no slight on the team to lose to a team like the Rays. They are no fluke.

The Yanks were always better than us on paper, and instead of celebrating staying so close for so long, we have turned to anger and bashing our own team. Had we simply flipped April and May for July and August, the tone would be way different, but it would still be the same team.

We are not as good as the Rays. Being up on them early should be viewed as a credit, not a sign that we are chokers.

The Yanks had their "dog days" early in the season, and that also led to our expectations for 2021 rising to unsustainable levels.

Am I disappointed, frustrated and more? Hell, yes, but this team deserves a lot of credit, IMO.

I jumped ship on 2019, because that team lost it's heart and soul. I guess, I can understand people thinking this year's version has, too, but I don't see it that way.

I see a team playing way over their heads for over half a season- pulling games out of their asses left and right- by sheer grit. I see them still fighting tooth and nail, now, but coming up short more often than not, especially in crucial situations. Call it regressing to the norm or whatever, but I still think this team has spunk and grit. Moments like the Arauz and JD homers were not all that long ago.

I may end up being very wrong about believing this team has another good run in them, and I'll be the first to admit it, but I still think we make the playoffs easily and will give the Yanks a big fight in the WC game. From there, unless we play the Rays, next, I will be confident. Although I'm not a believer in the playoff crapshoot philosophy, exceptions do happen, and we have a ring as a WC team to prove it can happen.

If they go .500 the rest of the way, they'll still get to 89-90 wins. They are a good team. They are better than the 2019 version. It's still disappointing though.

Well that is very fair. I won't argue that...... Regardless of the season you thought the Sox would have, it still hurts none the less to be tied for the best record in the majors through the first half of the season and then produce this. What a shame we just couldn't get better pitching. We are 3-0 with Sale, and when Nate is on we can't be stopped. It was almost a guarantee loss when Richards and Perez stepped up to pitch and that is what hurts this season so much. The bullpen is much better than people give them credit for, but they are tired.... When your starters can't go more than 5 innings and the bullpen has to play half the game that starts to wear on those guys.

Regardless, at this point I still hope we make the wild card because anything can happen at that rate.... But I don't expect us to win a series against the Rays or Astros (hell I don't expect us to win a game against them come playoffs) BUT if we can make that second wild card and beat the Yankees, that makes the season end on a high note regardless what happens against the Astros or Rays in the playoffs.

We likely could have gotten better pitching, but at what cost, and we'd never be sure getting anyone better than Robles or Davis would have worked.

The fact is, the team chose to not spend over the lux line and to try and keep every promising prospect they had- probably becuase they liked our chances next year and beyond over 2021. I can't say I fault that logic, but yes, it seems like, if they were willing to part with Ramirez for Schwarber, they could have done "just a little more."

I have to say, though, in all honesty, I'm glad Bloom did not trade more prospects. It seems he knew we need more help than even Rizzo, Kimbrel and Berios would have given us combined.

It sucks we started out so well, only to piss it all away, but I'm loving the team's long term outlook, and I still think we have another good run in us for 2021- maybe at just the right time.

We have a ring as a WC, under a different system.

I'd feel more better about their chances if they were the 4th best team rather than the 5th best team. However, when they won with a WC team, they had the second best record in the AL. This year, they are legitimately the 5th best team. It's not really comparable IMO. If this team was a game or two behind the Rays at season's end and then went to the playoffs, it'd be a different feeling around these parts. We aren't there.

True, but the Nats won under this system.

I'm not liking our odds much at all, and that's one reason I did not think it was wise to go for broke at the deadline, but this team has a grit I compare to 2013's team.

That's not to take anything away from 2013 or make anyone think I believe we will win it all, but I still see hope. A sliver, maybe.

To get to the 04 team's record, they'd have to go 23-6 the rest of the way. If they do that, I'll be on board.

What's filling me with doom is the combination of the COVID outbreak and the 6 more games with the Rays in the next 9 days.

Well, the Rays should request to play all of their games on the road going forward considering what COVID is like here.

The Rays, in typical fashion, seem to be having no COVID issues.

That's because Florida is the model of how to handle COVID.

So many "fans" jumping ship.

Sad.

No one's jumping ship. They're just saying the RS suck, that last night's game was the worst they've ever witnessed, and there's nothing to suggest that things are going to get better.

Call it what you want. That's what I called it. Several said more that "they suck." They gave up on the season- like I'm getting close to doing.

I'm not trying to be holier than thou. I was one of the first to jump ship in 2019. That was "sad," too.

This team is playing like crap and now has so many guys out, I can't recognize who is who. I need the announcers to tell me who is pitching or hitting.

It's a sad time in Red Sox Nation.

I'm still clinging to a sliver of hope. It doesn't make me a better fan than anyone else.

I am in the middle.

Would love to get that second wild card spot and smash the Yankees...... but I wish I had a crystal ball.... If all that is going to happen is us being swept and destroyed against Tampa (likely) there really isn't much point in making playoffs.

People always say, I would rather my team in the big game than not.... Well the Colts made it to the conf final in 2014 and lost something like 45-7 or whatever the hell it was. I much rather would have had them miss that game, beyond embarrassing. The Sox are 2-9 against Tampa since that first series and have been out scored terribly. We don't even look in the same league as them. I don't care what stats people show me, we just can't beat those guys or Houston.

One thing you would think..... Sale should give us a chance today and keep us competitive for at least half the game....... hopefully lol.

I'm not a playoffs are a crapshoot guy. I don't think we can beat TBR or HOU in a playoff series, but I'd like to see us try.

The only hope I have is that baseball has ebbs and flows. I still think this team is good enough to muster up another hot streak, and that the grit we showed earlier in the year was not a mirage.

He needs to keep his pitch count low and do well. That might be a lot to ask, but a 5 inning 1 run game will likely not cut it.

Lets see what happens tonight with our ace. If Sale can give us 6 innings of 2 runs or less, I will feel confident we can win.

Agreed...... Will we get that? Time will tell. Sale has been excellent, but would definitely like to see him start to go deeper in games. Fatigue seems to set in by the 5h and his command seems to go out the window.

Sale is one smart cookie. I think he knows we need 7 innings or a superb 6.

I think he may try to not K everyone and just get quick outs- like that's something easy to do.

Maybe I'm wishful thinking, but Sale has shown flashes of quick innings, this year. He just needs to string a bunch together.

The Rays are smart enough to know this, too.
