I wish the Sox had picked up a pitcher but the price must have been excessive. Some times the best moves are the ones you don't make. I still have faith in this team. They have done it all year after starting 0-3.

I normally would agree for the future but you do anything and everything for a World Series. We were tied for the most wins in the entire league two days ago. You do what you have to do to win. I just don’t get it. Nothing will convince me otherwise.

Trade deadline is over and Cordero and Doofy Dalbec are still here. That's what bothers me. This team looks like it is ready to tank, here we come fourth place.

It is clear to me now that Claire Bloom wasn't up for the challenge of running a big market team.

Well i like your optimism but Rodriguez has an ERA over 5 and his nibbling is getting tiredsome. The guy’s a non-competitor. Pivetta is concerning to me. His last 3 starts have been awful. The guy needs to right the ship. Idk about this pitching. I just don’t know.

While it could sound optimistic, I’m trying to be objective as well.

Rodriguez before the start vs NY, he had what? 3-4 encouraging starts? The big ? is, is he 100% healthy? If so he’s going to be oks.

Pivetta is definitely a major ?. He is for sure a box of chocolates but he has proven he can at least keep us in games —4 ER through five IP.

Dalbec swings at more bad balls than anybody I can remember seeing.

Pitchers know they don't need to throw him strikes to get him out. The only question is: why is he still here? He needs to work on things in AAA. At this point, he shouldn't spend another day in the big leagues and yet the Red Sox keep playing him......

It's only a 'big market team' if the owner gives you a blank check. That didn't happen. I would blame Bloom for protecting all his top prospects. So with no blank check, not willing to part with any top prospects, leaves making any significant trade impossible. Like I posted earlier, I'm surprised the SOX even got Schwarber for a single A pitcher. If Schwarber wasn't on the IL, the SOX probably wouldn't have gotten him either.

I really shouldn't be dissing JH. The SOX have won the most WS since 2000 and that was mostly do to JH not afraid to spend heavily. He really has been a great owner.

Exactly.

I retire from game day threads for the rest of the year

Since I started this. Sox suck. And Wentz for the colts got hurt. Just bad luck

I've retired also. Hopefully, we can go with that 3 man rotation I mentioned earlier.

Per ESPN:

Winner: Boston Red Sox

Even before the deadline period, we knew that the biggest upgrade Boston was likely to make will happen when Chris Sale returns from the injured list and resumes his place as the Red Sox's unchallenged ace.

Beyond that, it was a measured deadline approach for Chaim Bloom. But in landing the one additional bat his lineup needed in Kyle Schwarber, the Red Sox checked off the most important item on their deadline to-do list. Also, Hansel Robles is the kind of veteran reliever contending teams love to acquire, though his addition is a bit of a letdown after rumors suggested a possible reunion with Craig Kimbrel.

I think most people would think that pitching was the most important need even with Sale returning.

Yankees are creeping closer. This team needs a win tomorrow badly.

There is no other way to say this then WE NEED TO WIN TOMORROW. Our ace is going, we lose that. We’re done. Tomorrow is winnable with Nate.

We're done if we lose today? LOL! You must be a loyal follower of Captain Negative Michael Felger and Major Doom, Tony Massarotti.

ESPN is nuts. While I trust Bloom and now believe getting a good starter was just too expensive, that was in fact the most important need for this year's Sox.

The Sox currently have one reliable starter, Eovaldi. Pivetta, second best, has given up 13 runs in 15.1 innings in his last four starts. Houck has done well, but has yet to win a game by pitching 5 freaking innings. And Sale ain't here yet and hasn't gotten a MLB batter out in two freaking years.

Meanwhile, Schwarber is an outfielder on team that badly needs a good bat at 1b. Plus Schwarber has a bad hammie, so we have no idea how many games he will play for the Sox this year.

The WEEI guys give Bloom a C-, and I agree with the caveat that I still trust Bloom--plus I don't know what guidance John Henry may have given him.

Playing for next season when you are in first place 100 games into this season is foolishness imo. Maybe next season they are in Toronto’s or the Yankees’ position 100 games in. Will they spend money or prospects then? That would be foolish.

JH didn't want to go over the salary cap and Bloom didn't want to trade 'top prospects.' So this is why the SOX didn't get what they needed to make a serious run to get to the WS.

Is it too early to chant "wait till next year?"
