It is a suspicion not an assumption, and maybe your assumption is incorrect. I read somewhere that the spin rate for the Red Sox staff increased this season more than most other teams. I wonder what those spin rates are now after the announcement of the crackdown.

Is it not obvious the spin rates dropped precipitously? The pitchers who are vocal are all saying they have been screwed royally, that the 10 day suspension for doctoring the ball is tantamount to allowing the batters to hit off of a T. One has claimed he ruined his arm trying to adjust to this draconian dictum from the Commish.

I think you are kidding yourself that it's just a suspicion. To me it's the only assumption that makes sense, especially coming almost 3 months into the season when the pitchers have to make major adjustments on the fly.

FYI, an assumption is not a fact. Indeed, in most cases it's called a "working assumption," something that still has to be proven. Given all the caterwauling from the pitchers and the sudden rise in scoring and hitting, I think it's a good one. But, like everyone else, I look forward to determining how valid it is. And, even if it's valid, I look forward to seeing how pitchers, especially ours, adjust.

It sure looks like you have a better chance at being a winner, if your pitching is top 5 or 6, but there seem to be a few exceptions to the rule, and there are teams winning more than it appears they should be.

How are the spin rates for Red Sox pitchers in the last couple of weeks as compared to the first 2 months of the season. That might provide fairly definitive evidence. Cora is a world class cheater. Spin rate was a big thing for the cheating Astros too.

Hi, Moon. The SOX are 8th in ERA and Houston is 4th.

ERA minus (ERA-) is adjusted and better than ERA.

(I should have used OPS Against.)

Stupid blackout rules; KC is 6 hours from here and I canprobably count on one hand the number of Royals hats I’ve ever seen here locally.

I suppose they claim Iowa and I’m caught up bring just across the Mississippi.

Why do people say Vazquez frames a pitch well? To me he consistently jerks his glove back toward the strike zone, the opposite of "framing."
