I hesitate to expect one more inning from our starters, but it’s like playing Russian Roulette with anyone Cora chooses not named Barnes.

Geez this was one of the most heart breaking L Ive ever seen.

It’s baseball after all.

Or tonight anyone named Barnes

I still have total confidence in Barnes, but we need to ease his workload.

Avoid back to backs.

Avoid 4 or 5 out saves.

That’s hard to do when we have no reliable set up men.

A huge problem can arise, if some our starters stop giving us 5-6 innings.

I was kidding, the guy has been lights out. I mean, he’s no Chapman, but he’s really good, lol.

You’re running into what the Yanks dealt with after their dynasty and before 09. Good offense gave you leads, rotation was effective but not great, only reliable reliever was the closer. It was really easy to call for #42, but you can’t burn him out by July

Yesterday was disappointing, but I think it is the exception, instead of the rule, moving forward. Barnes can't be perfect every time out, and Ohtani is a great baseball player. Tip your cap to him and move on. Big series here with Toronto. Let's win the series and stay in 1st place as long as possible

The Yanks are now tied for 4th place in the ALE with the Rays.

The Jays are in second, so the easiest way to put some distance between us and them is by beating them, at least 2 out of 3.

Technically, the Yanks and Rays are tied for 3rd, not 4th, but I appreciate your optimistic point of view!

Jays offense is red hot, and that is without Springer. But, they lack pitching, or at least healthy pitching. They haven't named a starter for tomorrow, so likely a bullpen day, or they call up Nate Pearson, who got shelled last time out. Wednesday is Ross Stripling, and Thursday is Steven Matz, both of whom have been inconsistent. We won't see Ryu this series.

It's actually 3rd and 4th, but we always say the higher of the two.

If I asked, who is in 4th place, the answer would not be the O's.

Let's see how real our starters are when they face this mighty Jays lineup.

Every official sports site I've ever looked at would display it like this:

1. Red Sox

2. Blue Jays

T3. Yankees

T3. Rays

5. Orioles

So, techincally, there is no 4th place team.

But, if we're arguing about the optics of the standings, you know it's a pretty light day LOL. Not a bad thing.

Agreed. Everyone says tied for 3rd, but really it's both.

I realize that will go down as a blown save by Barnes, but he actually didn't do anything wrong. He threw a good pitch to Trout that resulted in a pop-up single and he threw a low inside pitch to Ohtana that he golfed around the Pesky pole. Like I posted earlier, it was just bad luck for Barnes and not the result of any mistake he made.

Ohtana and Devers have one major thing in common; no pitch, whether good or bad, is safe when they are at the plate.

I think the pitch to Ohtani was a bit too much over the plate, but your point is well-taken.

I also don't like him being forced to get more than 3 outs, but the rest of our pen is too scary to trust, so you gotta do what you gotta do, sometimes.

Almost every closer is asked for the occasional 4 or 5 out save.

Yes, and I know Barnes is not on pace to set career highs in pitches or batters faced, but we are getting close to using him too much and for too long.

I'm just saying no more than what we are doing, now.

I think Cora has used Barnes just enough. Not too much and not too little.

It's the other 8 RP'ers we need to worry about.

Worrying is pointless LOL

You don't worry when they bring in anyone not named Barnes?

If it goes poorly, I either get to switch the channel or head to bed early.

I worry about many things during games.

Our bullpen did fine in yesterday's game outside of how things ended.

Valdez and Taylor have looked pretty good lately. Sawamura has been mostly good. Ottavino gives heartburn but is not that bad.

If necessary, they could move Whitlock to setup man.

I'm confident that Bloom and Cora will do a good job.

I’m pretty confident with Whitlock

Me, too, but maybe not as an 8 inning set up man.

That position is still open. Applications being accepted.

Id give the 8th to Whitlock. He has the best stuff in the pen no named Barnes.

They probably have to work with his mind though.

I'm not sure this is the best idea.

We are stretching Whitlock out and will likely need a SP'er at some point. With Houck injured, Whitlock seems like the only and best choice.

He can still pitch the 8th and 9th every 2-4 days.

7th and 8th might work. He has the 3d best WAR on the pitching staff, .7, the lowest ERA, 1.77, and 2d best WHIP, .98.
