Red Sox Claim Joel Payamps, Place Franchy Cordero On COVID Injured List

So, that's why Franchy has been a no-show?

Posted
This is just the start of his no shows guy is just plagued with issues never mind cov19 .I really hope we get JBJ this is a terrible start .

It’s February 22nd and you think it’s time to cut the cord?

He’s on the COVID list, which means he’s either sick or been exposed. You know? That pandemic thing that was in the news...

They might just be quarantining him out of caution.

Plus, it's not like he's the key to our success..

If he flames out, it doesn't matter.

Like I said, the more important piece is the PTBNL from the Mets.

Boy you went anti-Franchy fast...

No, I've said that before. I think he can be a pretty good player, but his extensive injury history leads me to wonder if be closer to his floor than ceiling. He's just not the type of player you sign for 5 years. I want him to succeed and then the Sox turn him into a few good prospects.

If he stays healthy, he could be a 30/30 guy. He just doesn't have that track record though.

Does that lead me to make a Wily Mo Pena comparison? Nope.

Agreed, but Cordero has so much talent, he was worth a shot, and may end up being a nice player.

I'm also thinking that since we paid $2.8M of Beni's deal, a PTBNL from KC may be pretty promising, too.

(Lee was a nice piece, though, and I wonder why we didn't like him enough to keep him.)

The Lee part of the equation is why I'm interested in the Mets PTBNL.

I'm going by BTV, which may be totally useless, but I don't see anyone in the Mets system like Lee (similar value), but I realize Bloom may like a prospect with a value of 5 better than one with a 10. Maybe we get someone valued higher than Lee.

BTV Mets prospect values: (I'm wonder why we didn't get 2 from NYM and 1 from KC.)

NYM

18.4 Crow-Armstrong OF (We won't get him.)

15.8 Nientos 3B

11.2 Lee OF

5.9 Ginn P (see the big drop off?)

5.4 Ramirez OF

Had we gotten 2 PTBNL from the Mets, maybe Ginn & Ramirez?

Maybe we don't get a prospect, but get Lucchesi SP 7.0 or Peterson SP 9.9, but I doubt it.

KCR (Beni 4.6 +2.8M cash- Cordero 3.5 = 3.9)

4.8 Melendez C

4.1 Bowlan P

3.2 Pratto 1B

2.6 Hernandez P, Marsh P

2.3 Fox SS

2.0 Candelario SS

1.8 Hicklen OF, Matias OF

1.7 Hernandez P

Plenty of others at 1.6 and below

@ChrisCotillo

Red Sox will stretch out Matt Andriese as a starter and use him as their "utility guy" on the pitching staff. Can pitch in any role.

@ChrisCotillo

Cora says Plawecki will arrive in Fort Myers tonight or tomorrow. Hope on Cordero is that he'll be in camp early next week.

@ChrisCotillo

Sawamura is still in Japan, but Cora says he's not behind yet because he's throwing there. Once he gets the visa cleared, some steps (flying, intake, quarantine) before he can come to camp. But too early to tell if he'll be good to go for 4/1.

Interesting.

You think Whitlock may get some starts?

No. Too many guys ahead of him in the pecking order. (This is only in reference of him being a regular 5-6 inning starter, they may use him as a opener or something at some point)

So, Whitlock will only be used in the pen?

No chance of even being an "opener?"

I agree, many are ahead of him, but will be on the 26 man roster, all year- unlike many others.

There's a chance, but I don't believe an opener is a traditional starter.

Yes, but might Andriese be more of an opener than a starter, if it comes to that?

I think that if there was a substantial early season injury to a starter, that they'd keep him as a traditional starter and not an opener.

Assuming he makes the final roster, he 100% will make some starts this year. There is no earthly chance your opening day starting 5 makes all their starts. Also, if he doesn't make the final roster, then he will be a Yankee farmhand again.

So, this might be the rotational depth chart?

1. Sale (60 day IL)

2. ERod

3. Eovaldi

4. Richards

5. Pivetta

6. Houck

7. Andriese

8. Whitlock

9. Seabold

10. Mata

11. Gossett, Hart, Kent, Reyez, German, Winckowski, Ward

Possible openers: Brewer, Weber, Payamps, Gonsalves

Better depth than last year.
