He had 2 arbs left after this year. Is the $10M total for this year and next or $10M for 2021 + 2022, or is it $10M a year for both 2021 and 2022?

I read it is $3.4M this year and $6.6M in 2021. It will count as $5M a year on the Lux tax. This will save us about $1.6M on next years budget, when we may go back over the tax line. Good deal, Bloom!

Very possible it sets Benintendi up as better trade bait. His subpar 2019 looks less worrisome to any potential suitor in the face of this level of cost control...

Lack of starting pitching would be the primary reason...

3 arbs after a down year is not very threatening either.

If he does great after being traded and gets paid more, is that a bad thing?

Very good deal.

Really hoping Benintendi has a bounce back year this year

Me, too, and if he does, the deal looks even better.

If so this would look to be a good deal for the Sox. Beni is going to be enough of a basket case without Mookie in the batting order. Maybe having 2 years in hand will settle him out and make it easier for him to adapt.

I thought Beni would get $4-$5 mil for 2020 alone. With second year jumps and a good season, I thought Beni was in line for a $7-$8 mil or better 2021. He definitely took the guarantee over the risk.

Well done for both the Sox and Beni.

Mookie should be taking a page out of Xander's and Beni's books.

Mookie would be ripping those pages like Nancy Pelosi.

I gained so much respect for Xander last year, for many reasons. At the same time, right or wrong, I lost some respect for Mookie. :(

I am just going by his personal statements.

Plus I don't know why we have suddenly gotten convenient memory for who Mookie has as an agent.

VC Sports Group - what about them?

I was agreeing with you.

I am rolling my eyes at Mookie saying that he needs to go to free agency because he has the player's union to think about.

He has to do something, after that crazy Trout left so much money on the table!

Not unless the Dodgers give him an offer with a 4 at the start of it.

Unless Mookie decides that, if he can get a 4 with only one team bidding, maybe he can get a 5 in free agency...

Mookie is beyond that point Kimmi. Benintendi got a nice signing bonus, but not he is set to make his first big contract. $10 mil sets him up for life when you add in his $3+ mil signing bonus. Betts is already set for life. With his 3 arb years, he will make $57 mil over the 3 seasons. If he shatters his leg on the field, then he has more money than he probably could have dreamed of. He is content to wait and he has the money to be patient for

Having Bogey, JD and Devers hitting behind him is not a bad thing.

Beni's biggest challenge has been batting lead off. I struggle with putting him back there now that Mookie will be out of the batting order.

My only real hope for Beni batting lead off in 2020 is that having a contract at least takes that pressure off of him. Maybe and I do mean MAYBE he will do better from the 1 hole given he has a two year contract under his belt. Though their inconsistency does not take the same form Beni from 1 reminds me of JBJ from ANYWHERE!
